I received an email several days ago that was originally posted on Aero News, I think. It was an announcement by Beechcraft that they are going to resurrect the classic G17 Staggerwing and produce it with brand new R-985's that P&W has agreed to offer. Save your pennies.

Just reporting what was sent to me. With so many people with gobs of money these days, it very well could happen, I suppose.

Yep, just like you can buy a new Waco. However, I don't see it happening under the umbrella of the Beechcraft label (Textron).

It is interesting, though, that if Chevy wanted to build a new 1957 2-door, they couldn't legally do it without extensive changes. Beech, though, could start building new Staggerwings tomorrow without doing much of anything, assuming they could get engines.

Heck with the Chevies, I'm still waiting to hear if Cessna is going to resurrect the Bobcat. Shouldn't be much of a problem, all wooden wing, steel tube fabric covered fuselage, and two nice little Jakes...well, that might be a little problem finding enough of those. Anyway, it's a really nice flying little airplane if you're not in a hurry.

    The Bamboo Bomber...

I think Sky King flew a Bobcat in his early TV shows, before the got a new Cessna 310.

Yes! I remember the Bobcat on Sky King in the 50's . My kids loved it. The oldest two are now 66 and 65. The other two are 62 and 60. I don't know how the hell they got so old. Yeah, at that time we had a 13 inch black and white TV that received 4 stations. Fancy stuff.

The FAA would be apoplectic having to consider how to certify such a construction.:D Its already difficult finding A&P/IA's who have experience with tube and fabric.

I have a 3/4 scale in one of our FBOs. It was built from the original plans so it is aerodynamically correct and, theoretically, should be able to fly. I think it cost more than an original, however, so why even try.

Where is it, if you don't mind telling?

    Beautiful.

Hmmm, they mostly seem to be yellow or red.
I've seen one pic of a white plane, the military versions were silver...
