Interesting start, but a bit of an uneventful race. Nice to see a new winner if a Ferrari driver couldn't take the victory. Holy crap, the commentary on NBCSN is awful! Radio (engineer): "Ok Daniel, box and the pedal will determine if we continue." Commentary: "The Pedal is, of course, the nickname for one of the crew." Radio (Ricciardo): "Naw, the pedal's gone." Commentary: "Looks like The Pedal has made the call." Cretins. Even I could offer better commentary than that. What a bunch of ****ing *******s the network got to comment on the F1. When they clearly have absolutely no idea what's going on they just pull some fictitious tidbit out of their ass and pass it off as insider knowledge, confident that their audience isn't savvy enough to smell the BS. I ****ing hate NBCSN! Any recommendations for alternative networks over here in the USA? All the best, Andrew.
Agree 100% No one commented how they went to their first commercial break while the feed was showing the replay of the start?
Well, I hope not!! Also, the amount of a driver's retainer is an indication of his value for the team. Even if "they don't need the money" most F1 top drivers will not sell themselves cheaply. It's a matter of pride too.
Has someone counted overtakes in the race? Was there not a single one on track after the start? Seemed like it. It is great to have Merc and Ferrari trading victories. I wonder how soon Mercedes will Hamilton number two to keep Bottas' chances alive. If they wouldn't have double-screwed in Bahrain he could have taken his second victory today. Hamilton was already in the cockpit smelling yet another conspiracy against him when his car started running hot. Instead of focusing on managing it and saving the best for his own race. Clown.
+1 poor useless, tasteless comment. He had a nice career in F1 and left with a title. Thats how it works, you win and one day you leave and hopefully on your terms. Thats life.
He'll earn 20 mil at Mercedes easy. He'd much rather have a paycut and ride in the front than earn twice the money and not even starting races. Talking of pride...he'll gain tons more respect from ANYONE taking a huge pay cut simply to race up front. Kimi also took a huge paycut when he came back to F1. Even his 2nd year at Lotus, he went from 5m to 3m (which they couldn't pay him either) basic pay, despite exceeding expectations in 2012! These guys are way beyond city boy pride.
Stream it I stopped watching the US coverage years ago watch sky no breaks guring the race. Csn use a diff audio feed if u dont like Sky's commentary
18:03 Via SKY F1 The best bit of the Russian GP... @ScuderiaFerrari RAI: “How did we end up behind Bottas?” TEAM: “He was leading the race, Kimi” #RussianGP #F1 pic.twitter.com/sE3zKPfgus — Formula 1 (@F1) April 30, 2017
All the cars passed Alonso. And lots of 'em passed Ric on his way to the pits. Other than that, none that the (poor) TV coverage showed. Probably some in the back markers. Stroll finished 11th after his spin. Every time someone came up on Kvyat, Russian TV showed it -- but no passes.
I beg to differ. But anyway, if Alonso is really serious about emulating Graham Hill and winning the Triple Crown (WDC , Indy and Le Mans) he cannot afford to hang on in F1 for too long. I would be surprised if he can win Le Mans and Indy at his first attempt, and he is already in his late 30s, no? So he must start to get serious about preparing for the 2 famous races he wishes to win.
Rossi won Indy at his first go, so that's possible. Hulkenberg did it, too. Alonso is 35, tom Kristensen last won Le Mans when he was 45. Let's say he signs 2 years with Mercedes, gives him a decent shot at his 3rd title he desperately wants. Certainly more wins. Even if Honda sorts out the engine, it certainly won't be the best power unit, they'll still be power down by a fair amount. Forget competing for wins...if they're lucky they'll be a regular contender for the top 6.
Well, winning Le Mans or Indy at the first attempt is the exception, nor a regular occurrence, I think you will agree. Rossi and Hulkenberg were very lucky. Le Mans and Indy are 2 different programmes that need to be prepared seriously. Alonso should leave F1 now!! Just ask Mario Andretti...
The race was lost on the run from the grid. Sebastian Vettel: 'It felt like a tent was dragging behind me'
So were there any overtakes in that race after the first corner? I can't remember seeing any at all. Jonathan
Yep it's a rare occurrence, but both have happened a few times so it's not completely unlikely. Lets say he does 2 more seasons of F1 after this, that'll give him 7 years of playing around doing Indy and Le Mans. They may be different programs, but Hulkenberg did it, and he was doing F1 that year. So not sure what the problem is. Jeroen Bleekemolen is another racing driver that drives a different racing car every weekend almost. Last year he drove Porsches, Lamborghini's, Mercedes, LMP2's, viper GTS-R's and plenty of others and won in most classes. He did sprint races, 3-6 hours endurance races, 12 and 24 hour races...If he can manage, why shouldn't Alonso?
All I am saying is that to get in a winning car at Le Mans, you most likely have to commit to a full WEC season, become part of a constructor team, spend days of preparation, etc ... Counting on chance to repeat Hulkenberg lucky victory is not being serious about it. Look at Webber who went to Porsche and didn't manage to win Le Mans, although he got a few victories.
I fast forwarded most of the race and watched the side bar that showed where everyone was. Outside of during pits I don't recall seeing any places swapped. It was the fastest I've ever watched an F1 race. Maybe 10-15 minutes max start to the finish. Congrats to Bottas.
agree Congrats to Bottas on first win, but what a BORING race. Made worse by Eddie Jordan and screaming Leigh Diffey telling us what an exciting race it was...
Alonso should have raced yesterday in the oval of Phoenix, surely it would have served him more than to race here in Russia
