BTW it took Elton 10 races to win for Mercedes, only 4 for Bottas ... To be fair RB in 2013 were far more competitive ... lol Pete
It´s not who you support but how you support him Bottas had the same grip Vettel had starting on the same side but still you point out how Vettel lost despite having grip. On the other hand Kimi had the same grip as Lewis but you point out that Lewis had a good start despite low grip...So obviously the Mercedes in general started better in Russia than the Ferrari on the same grip-level so neither in particularily poor of Vettel nore great of Hamilton, simply a fact that the Mercedes seemed to be better. But you are twisting it to make it suit your biased view on Lewis and Seb. Nothing new toil...
If you look for plenty of fights, overtakings, and all the cars racing on the same pace, that won't happen in F1; there are too much differences between cars and it's road racing where the field stretches after a few laps inevitably. F1 isn't a carousel like NASCAR or INDY where there is action all the time and constant passing.
MAY 1, 2017 Alonso leaving exit open for 2018 Fernando Alonso has admitted again that he could leave the McLaren-Honda project at the end of the season. It comes after an horror Sunday for the Spaniard in Russia, as his car ground to a halt before the grand prix even started. Obviously angry, Alonso tried to be philosophical. "These are things that happen in the sport," he told the Spanish broadcaster Movistar. "As for me, I tried this weekend to drive as fast as I can, helped the team in the way I could and now I'm going home. Next is Barcelona, but if I get there and I cannot run, what am I going to do? "I do my job, but there is someone who doesn't do theirs." Alonso even admitted that he tried to leave Sochi as soon as he broke down on Sunday. "I tried but there were no planes," he smiled. "So I will have an ice cream and watch the race instead." Alonso will then do the Indy 500 next month, but he insists he will not quit F1 in frustration of his situation. "F1 is my life," he said. "I hope we can improve the situation soon." But beyond 2017 and the expiration of his current contract, that could mean quitting McLaren-Honda at least. "I think in 2018 we will see what will happen with each of us," Alonso told reporters.
You forget that Sebastian was driving into a headwind and Valtteri was draughting in tow, which gave him the advantage to overtake. "We tried everything but we lost the race at the start. I had a good start, it was a match with Valtteri, but he had a massive tow. I defended the inside, but by the time we approached the braking zone he was in front and shut the door. That is where he won the race."
Could you be a little more condescending? I'm not sure I get your point. I've been watching F1 my entire life and I'm 49. I'm pretty sure I've seen better racing. Actual racing. With passing. But don't let reality get in your way. After all, you never do.
What was interesting during the SKY broadcast yesterday was how the commentators Kravitz and Brundle kept mentioning how Bottas' well judged victory at Sochi was somehow over shadowed by the fact that this was his 88th race and how he's 27 years old. Now, I really like the commentating on SKY (anything being better than this fingernails on chalkboard Diffey guy on NBC) but they kept bringing up this point. Subtle British bias? Perhaps... But, they'd do well to remember that Bottas more than held his own with the mid-field running Williams team against a far more experienced team mate over four seasons. So what it took Bottas 88 starts to finally come through to a win? Are they saying this because Hamilton accomplished his first victory at Montreal in only his sixth F-1 start and using it as a subtle dig? They'd do well to remember that at the time, Hamilton was on with McLaren which was a championship challenging team (internal conflicts and controversies aside) in his rookie season. This was certainly an advantage that Bottas did not have in his early F-1 career. Live in the now Kravitz and Brundle, pouring cold water on Bottas' first victory by continually outlining that he hasn't come up the same way Hamilton did has nothing to do with what is happening right now. FWIW: # F1 starts before first win Webber 130 Barrichello 123 Button 113 Rosberg 111 Hakkinen 96 Jackie Stewart had 99 starts total, 27 wins.
I hope he does well at Indy, cause he's going to need a seat, and F-1 is quickly passing him by. he could do another stint at Renault, but not sure they are ready to be top class... hasta la vista Alonso de Formula uno!
"Alonso will be in Hamilton's Merc next year. Watch" Wow, that's a bold statement. Are we laying odd on this? BHW
You may be right. But, where will Hammy go? The only logical choices are Renault or Ferrari. Any other team would be running customer engines with no hope of contesting championships. I doubt that he is prepared to be a mid-packer. Ferrari would not dare to put him next to Vettel. So, he goes to Renault replacing Palmer (no big loss). That would give Renault a pretty potent driver team. All Renault have to do is make a kick-ass PU and they will be contenders.
Excellent point and with Palmer hardly able to get through a GP weekend without crashing out, all British media roads lead to Hamilton. But, seeing as how Hamilton was brought in by Uncle Ron at McLaren, would he have fared so well had he started with (say) Williams or Toro Rosso for example? Remember who the only driver is that had brought Torro Rosso a victory by the way. BHW
Ex-driver conspiracy theory!! Alonso parks on the formation lap, costing Vettel a much-needed extra racing lap at the end. Massa has a slow leak, has to take a second stop and ends up needing to be passed at the end. Damn conspiracies!
