I agree Tom. At this scale, price point, and supposed "detail" level.... all of those panels should have the correct underside detail, since the lack of it can easily be seen when you open or remove a panel. If the model did not have any opening panels - was to be a "curbside" model then that of course would not be an issue. I am surprised and disappointed to see that MFH has missed all of that.

Why don't companies make "components" so only the unique bits need to be made of a particular model?

I mean, why can't you buy Dunlop mag wheels as used in the 60's in the common scales by themselves, same with Weber carbs, etc.

This is how real cars were made, and it seems odd to me that we have all these models making the same things, some better than others, when if one company (?) just concentrated on making perfect car components the quality would go up. This would mean the model designer could concentrate on getting the unique details right instead of wasting time re-designing for the fiftieth a wheel.

To make a Jaguar D-type, you would order the chassis and body from X, their wheels/tyres kit and carbs from maybe Y.

    Just a thought
    Pete

They already do, but it ends up being very expensive. Companies now 3D print entire body shells and chassis for cars along with engines/gearboxes/parts. That may end up being the future of all models, we will have to wait and see. I think one company would do the entire kit still otherwise you might have even more fit issues.

Here are photos of the new Fujimi 911RSR 1/24th scale kit made the old fashioned way, injection molded. Rather simple but it looks good from the photos.

Not sure if this last blurb was pointed at me and if it was I may be too ignorant to care. I will admit however I misread your initial statement. For some reason I thought you were referring to the bottom of the car. An old speed reading (bad) habit. I would tend to agree with you but it's not a major issue IMHO. With a little effort a builder could add the details if they choose.

They are some of the best modelers. I have seen examples first hand and they are a unique group of builders. Stephane of Built Up Models is also in the same league.

Absolutely top notch - spectacular pieces. Fantastic craftsmanship. I always enjoy seeing models like these, and would love to find some shows in my area.

My point is just that Hiro makes fine models, but they are not perfect. They need to try harder to get the details right at the prices they want to charge. If they are done right the prices are a bargain. A lot of people think if Hiro did it everything must be correct or close, and to them ignorance is bliss!! I really cringe every time I open a Hiro model box and look at the 3D designed body hoping it looks like the car. Almost always they screwed something up. They still give it a good shot but this latest 312PB shows they are taking shortcuts wich I think is unacceptable.

I consider Hiro to be the most important large car kit maker ever, but not the best ever. I should send them that thought as I think they also want to be the best ever.

Now that could be an expensive little spelling mistake!

This reminds me of some of the other spelling blunders I've seen from various model manufacturers over the years. I didn't bother to look at this one before since the car is of no interest to me.

True, but from a premium model maker I like to see some accuracy.
