Ok, I'll bite.

Yours look 100 times cleaner than mine. Why do you ask?

 

I use compressed air to blow away lots of sand and dust and a littel water ... absolutely no detergents or so.

 

Tried "Scrubbing Bubbles" recommended here, but that was a disaster and left white streaks all over. Griot's Engine Cleaner works well, I have not used the engine dressing. Can't bring myself to spraying silicone all over the place. Looks fine w/o it.

 

This. But if you must simple green diluted with water works very well and is environmentally safe.

 

Mine is ALOT dirtier. I carefull use simple green or formula 401. I like to keep moisture away from electrical things in there.

 

I use Autozone crap. I had a few leaks that I fixed that I settle for "good enough" when I cleaned them.

 

Careful. There are different types of Simple Green. Use Extreme Simple Green which is friendly to aluminum and other surfaces found on our cars.

 

I use air & brush mine off behind the panels & in the line of sight with a four inch dry painters brush. Then I remove buff & wax the carbon. I use a bit of brake clean to remove any stubborn spots on the block or crinkle finish painted parts.

The engine bay will get pretty dusty after a road trip. But that method of mine twice a season seems to keep it in check.

I use CG Ecosmart or spray wax. It never gets too dirty though.

 

Fantastik (enamel safe) and then Armoral on the plastic.

you do know that armor all creates a chemical dependence in the plastic on continuous armor all application? so once you start, you can't stop- i'd avoid it

 

I get my engine up to operating temperature. Spray it down with P21S, agitate it with a brush then gently rinse it off with a hose. Done.

I have Jason of Xcaliber detailing clean the engine. Don't know what he uses, i do know u can eat off the motor it is so clean.

Concur. I've got a 65 Mustang that the previous owner (my brother!) used that greasy kid's stuff all the time. I hate the stuff so I never use it... now the upholstery is dried out and cracking... stay away from that crap!!!

Back to the thread... my 360 is powered by an engine, not a motor.

 

OK no problem. Don't use it on engines a lot and not invested in it. I have used it on my Miata top for 17 years and it's doing OK. But I do cover it and treat it every other wash.

Protecting the electrical stuff and then washing almost normally.

 

My mechanic recommended some WD40 on a microfibre to clean the engine. Thoughts?

 

WD40? No.

Black on Black works good.

Nothing, and I mean nothing works better on an engine that Lemon Pledge. Spray it on and let it dry. It leaves a matte finish that makes the engine look like new....non of this shiny, oily look most dressing leaves behind to collect dust.

I've never been one for cleaning/detailing stuff. So I keep it presentable but not especially "show-y". Just a rag and some water and some light car wash detergent.

 

Lemon pledge? What's that?

I've red that concentrated lemon juice mixed (1:2), will do the trick on casted aluminium... Right or wrong - I don't know...

 

Lemon pledge is a furniture polish.

 

Just elbow grease for me. A little Aerospace 301 on a rag to wipe the intake covers and detail spray for the carbon bits is about it!
