These aren't exactly fake-- they're sold by Speedline. I wouldn't be surprised if Speedline outsourced production of the original run as well.

I have a powder-coating company that is quoting me $300 for all 4 wheels. This includes aluminum repair on the two chips in the edges (small). They are the largest powder-coating company in St. Louis and are very well known in the car scene here (exotics specifically). Gateway PowderCoating is the name of their business.

I don't mind that these are "fakes". I actually prefer aluminum for this exact reason. If something happens to magnesium wheels they are more difficult to repair.

If I was able to get a replacement from Speedline in a reasonable amount of time, I would go that route. But they quoted me another 4 months for a second replacement set. Essentially I would have to return these, they would hold onto my money, and 4 months later I MIGHT get an undamaged set in the mail.

If I go the route of "original Mag Speedline" I will ultimately have to powdercoat those as well since they will likely have some usage on them. I want black only, and apparently those are next to impossible to find?

I think, as long as I can get money back for these, I will be fixing these. Them returning some of my money will help alleviate the cost of wheel bolts, center caps, and tires that I have sitting in my living room waiting to go on my wheels lol.

These have the "Cinel" logo on them, do the originals have any other name? I wouldn't consider them "fakes" either since Speedline is selling them. They are just a reproduction of the OEM but in a different metal.

Original challenge rims, depending on whether they were from the 90s production run or the later run, have different markings on them but neither have speedline or a company name/logo on them.

The ones I've seen have the "Speedline" or "Speedline Corse" sticker on one of the spokes, but nothing stamped into the metal.

Yes exactly they all just that the speedline stickers... I was referring to the stampings, as I believe the "Cinel' logo your refring to is stamped. No such stampings on the originals I've come across.

When I spoke with Cinel a while back I didn't get the impression they were making these on behalf of 'someone'; they are just a wheel off their website, so they are happy to have their name on, not trying to provide a visual 100% replica.

Assume that if the weight and alloy mix didn't worry the purchaser, then having the Cinel 'filled' / removed would be v easy, if that was an issue.
Cinel seemed v professional and more than able to ship internationally safely.
Shame that an intermediary couldn't pack properly.
Hope Speedline sort you out asap. Looking forward to seeing the finished wheels on your car. As earlier posts, I think they're a great wheel.

Yes, you're right. This is the best route to go. It amounts to minor road rash repair.

Correct. Mine are beginning to show some signs of usage. :)

My ride height is about as high. I'm going to lower it when the Challenge wheels go on. Looks much more sleek when it's lowered a bit.

    Final resolution to this:

Chris (who I worked with start to finish) ultimately allowed a 800 British Pound ($1035 USD).

I accepted this return and will be having a very reputable local company refinish them in matte/ satin black powder coat.

Although not the best situation, I feel like Chris did a great job on his end correcting it the best he could with several options on my end to choose from.

As much as I wanted to say "no just send me another set" I chose not to because of their wait time on production, and the possibility of the same issue on shipping on the second set.

Chris is mailing me new Speedline stickers to replace the ones that are coming off of the wheel during the time of powder coat.

Another strange issue I noticed just last night. One of the wheels does not have the "Cinel" imprinted logo. I believe that it was there, but maybe filled in with paint on accident? I can BARELY feel the logo there under the paint. The other 3 look fine.

I may have my powder coating company fill them in, as the "Cinel" kinda takes away from the rest of the minimalistic design of these wheels.

Wouldn't worry about it, you got the wrong color anyway. :)

Perhaps there was an issue with the first coat of powder so that particular wheel was coated twice. Two coats of powder really fills in small grooves like that.

Can these wheels be ordered painted instead of powder-coated? Repairs like this would be easier.

I'm thinking the same thing. You can kinda feel where the logo was. we will see when these get stripped.

This is paint not powder coat from Cinel / Speeline (99% sure). I'll ask my powdercoating company to be positive.

I attempted to contact Cinel on multiple occasions, and they kept sending me to their "contractor for the US" and literally never heard back. So I contacted Speedline directly (assuming that's who they kept sending me to). I was very unimpressed with how Cinel handled me trying to buy wheels from them.

Sorry to hear Cinel were not much use for you; I have to say I had a v different experience - and that wasn't down to my Google Italian I can assure you.
I was under the impression from them that the wheels were painted; partly due to repair issues. Hope it gets sorted for you soon.

Aren't these the original magnesium wheels?

I thought you cannot/should not powder coat magnesium wheels due to the heat.

I ended up stripping and painting my challenge wheels instead of powdercoating them.
