    From Doug DeMuro:

This car is probably not worth $500,000 if you're expecting a touring car with a luxury ride and a lot of cool gadgets to wow your friends. The Ferrari 488 is more forgiving; the Lamborghini Huracan has a much nicer cockpit; the Lamborghini Aventador is more practical (there's a phrase I never thought I'd write); the Ferrari F12 is more usable. If you're buying the GT thinking that you're going to bring it to night clubs and valet it at fancy restaurants, you're making a mistake. You'll hate it. It's not that kind of car.

The GT is absolutely worth $500,000 if you want to buy what is quite possibly the most thrilling driving experience in years: The most precise, the most explosive, the most exciting high performance car I've ever driven. If you want to storm your local twisty roads or run the table at your local track events, there won't be a better choice in the world. If that's your thing, you'll love it. You'll be tremendously satisfied with it. It's absolutely that kind of car.

Doug DeMuro is an automotive journalist who has written for many online and magazine publications. He once owned a Nissan Cube and a Ferrari 360 Modena. At the same time.

I agree except for one thing

This is a direct link to a race car in a way those others are not. As a place in automotive history, this Ford GT is unique as was it's original. Ironically the original wasn't built in the USA and this one isn't either. But, Ford's a global company so we can excuse them for that.

Ford has made it's McLaren F1. We will probably never see anything like it again, unfortunately.

As a road car it might pretty much stink. But as a race car adapted for the road without compromise, it shines.

    Addendum from DeMuro:

Simply put, this car is amazing: It's a marvel of technology, it's a masterpiece of weight savings in the interests of performance, it's brutally fast, and it's tremendously adept at going around corners on a race track. I also find its appearance to be exciting and aggressive -- though, certainly, some of you will disagree; styling, after all, is subjective. Put it all together, and you have one simple truth: This is best exotic car I've ever driven.

    ***

No info yet on how Muffy will enjoy getting out of it at the Country Club or if, at all, it will match most ascots.

but fact that it is a race car on the street is problematic. who is going to bring a 500k car to the local track day? esp when its going to be worth 1 million soon enough.

it might be my choice if they made as many as they could sell at $250k. then it wouldnt become so collectible and could take it to track without being so nervous it would ruin the all the fun.

as it is, this car is going to be utilized only as a collectible trailer queen. shame

It's only problematic if you're looking for a soft car that can be used as a daily. "Race car for the street" is literally the main attraction for me. Paying $300k for unusably fast road cars that lull you into confusing them for daily drivers isn't really a priority for many people. People want cars with a sense of occasion. It's why many older, rawer, objectively ****tier cars are worth more money than the parade of modern comfortable exotics which lose brutal amounts of value in a short period of time.

We'll have at least 10 on the track at our event in August depending on how quickly deliveries go. This will be the same story as the last GT. "It will only be a trailer queen." Don't worry, you'll see soon enough.

"Problematic"... well, that depends on your point of view, doesn't it?

Today car makers don't make sports cars. What they make are outlandish 2 seat GT's. Ford said "F- that".

Like it or not, it's unique. Good for them.

As I said many times, the Ford GT is a PR stunt. Ford has no intention of getting into the "exotic" business long term. Unlike Ferrari, McLaren, and Lambo, Ford will not live or die on this new car being a big seller.

On one hand the Ford GT makes no sense other than to promote Ford (and Ecoboost) as a brand -- the ultimate "halo" car. If kids today still put car posters up on their walls in their bedrooms, this would be the one they would choose. Let's not lie to ourselves --THAT is Ford's goal here.

On the other hand, we end up with something that lets ordinary people actually drive pretty much a Le Mans racer on city roads and track events. Good for them part 2. :)

And it's unabashed in it's intended to not be for everyone. Good for them part 3. :)

The only other "modern" to go from full on Le Mans car to mild disguised street car was the Porsche Carrera GT, which, IMO, is a masterpiece.

I'll make one other point about the purpose of the new Ford GT

Imagine a cars and coffee where these cars were all next to one another

    The Mac 720s
    The Ferrari 488 "specialie"
    The Lambo Preformante
    The Ford GT

Which do you think people would flock to?

    It's the Ford, hands down.

For that Ford wins because THAT was the entire point of this car.

Kinda funny. As boys and men we purchased cars and bolted on items like Mags, sport tires (I wore out my share of Pos-A-Traction Torque Twister's) chin spoilers, rear spoilers, wheel flairs, oversized mirrors, changed springs, added sway bars, etc etc etc to try and make a race car for the street. Porsche has been doing this for years with the GT3RSR and people marvel. Now Ford....yes "Ford" does exactly this to a level not previously achieved and some *****. Yeah, keep telling me how this car is too close to a race car for the street. LOL!

That's interesting because people are out in them constantly. We'll have close to 90 cars between the 05/06 and 17+. We get them out. We had 120 in 2015 in Dearborn.

I wasn't a big fan of this car but after seeing some reviews I'm swayed a bit. If I had the money and could only buy 1 car, I still wouldn't get it. If I had a collection and this was just another to throw in there then yeah.

Still, quite impressive and kudos to Ford.

If you want to see most of the new articles in one spot, here it is. Thanks DBK.

Ford GT Media Launch Review Compilation! Articles and Videos Within!!

I have only read the Motor1 and Motor Trend reviews, but both loved the car from what I read. On the idea that these won't get tracked, let's see the high percentage that show up for the National Rally in Utah in August, willing to get out on the track. A large section of the Ford GT Application ( 10+ pages of questions) was about what cars you have tracked, if you hold a current license, and how you expect to use the car in the future. There will certainly be a couple of garage queens out there, but I think Ford's process will weed out the flippers, and get these cars to the true enthusiasts that will get them out in the public eye.

Once again, thank you Ford for building this amazing car. Just hope to be in the last 250 people chosen in 2018 to get on the list to order one.

And I still think (at least in America) the Ford gets more attention.

Actually, at last ny auto show nfgt didnt draw big crowd at all. Demon and amg gtr in 'green' hell color were both mobbed in comparison

I do hope nfgt owners take it to track where its superior chassis, aero, packaging will shine. Because i feel the v6 engine, cramped interior (one review called it elise sized!), hard ride make it very compromised on street compared to cheaper competition

To me it will all come down to this. Are the street compromises of nfgt made up for with track ability compared to the reverse situation of the competition? Imo, 488gto, performante, 720 etc will all be so much better on street and only slightly behind on track. Will be fun to find out...

It's more like a modern day F40 in terms of single focus and "raw/pureness" than a highly capable, modern supercar that you can drive every day.

That's a good question. Neither one has a drive train that I love, but both are very exotic looking. Honestly, I really think I would be more drawn to the Ford than Ferrari. I didn't think I'd ever say that. The Ford is more that I want in a supercar.
