The Lewis "Elton" Hamilton Sucks Thread

Hamilton is 1 away to tie Senna(65 poles) and 3 away to tie MS(68 poles). He should be able to leap-frog both of them this year.....what a feat!!!!! Definitely in the annals of F1 history.

 

Lewis did not suck today. He drove a very, very good race.

Bottas looked pretty weak IMO

 

I tend to agree with you but from time to time he seemed very lost...The team constantly had to tell him that they are doing good and that the strategy will pay off at the end (as it did) because he did not seem to be aware what was going on...It did not look that controlled from the cockpit but very much from the pit wall...That said he still did not make a single mistake so he was driving good but it was more a Mercedes strategist than a Hamilton victory

No one cares about pole feats these days. The tyre factor is just too much playing it's part here. The format that is comparable would be the 1 hour, 12 laps free for all in the late 90s, early 2000s.

 

I get what your saying. To make a comparison with regards to that era compared to this era would be unfair. However, the history books see it differently as well as most of the fans who know nothing of the history of F1.

 

But you aren't really a fan of F1 if you don't know its history.

So I dismiss completely these "number crunchers" who base their appreciation of drivers purely on statistics.

 

Statistics are meaningless today..Elton can rack up all the poles he want..he will never be as fast as guys like Senna, Mika, Michael, etc, etc, and only his fanboys will consider him so.

 

Bottas was on a high mileage engine and lower spec. With Verstappen and Kimi out, 3rd place was secured...no point trying to race the guys with fresh engines and higher spec. Tried to finish the race but engine still expired...

 

So, you're saying all of his accomplishments are luck, right?

So much now, is driven by what the car can do. Talented yes he is. World ending Picasso as he see's himself(thats in print today) no he is not. He was not at all remarkable in a very not world beating Mclaren vs JB. Thats the part many forget with respect to LH. He simply did not dominate JB or show much of an FA talent it taking a less than perfect car and winning. Its more Mercedes than LH.

 

Where's your evidence for that? I presume you are simply taking an emotional perspective on this?

 

Easy, just ask around, i would really like to know how many people (besides Toil) think Elton is faster than any of the mentioned drivers....and i just picked theses ones because they are relativly recent, i could name several others....
I can also add that same goes for Seb and his wins...he can win a lot, he's a very good driver, but he will never be in the same league as somo of those who have won far less races.

 

You didn't say faster. You said 'as fast'. You have no basis to make that call. None. Both Ham and Vettel have earned the right to be considered in that group. Arguments about which of them is the GOAT over different eras of history are best left in the school playground.

 

Here is the problem: his fans always talk about HIS accomplishments...But those are TEAM accomplishments!!! F1 is a team sport, it always was and it always will be. But I have the impression that with the Hamilton fans more than with any others the Team seems to be Lewis on good days and "the others" on bad ones. That is much more with him than with any other driver in the field and he seems to force that.
Look at this weekends race: it will go down into the statistics as Hamilton win but it was very much a team effort with a deep impact from the pit wall. But this is never mentioned.
Lewis always sat in a competitive car which makes his statistics looking very exciting. Take 2 or 3 years of these competitive cars and replace them with average cars others drove in their rookie years and Lewis would be still the same racer but his statistics would look different, so statistics obviously do not tell the whole story.
Compare with Alonso: Lewis statistics look MUCH better than those of Fernando, does that make him a better racer automatically? I think not and so one should not overrate stats for other things they are.
He had three team mates that were good: Alonso, Button and Rosberg. He might have been better than the last two (although one can argue with Button already) but he did never dominate them..People say he won a race in every year of his F1 career but apart from Heiki in 2009 every of his team mate did win in the same year as well, so he did nothing the other was not able to do as well. This takes nothing away from him but does not sound like he is head an shoulders above the rest of the field and therefore does not qualify for a "GOAT" in my opinion! But once you say that you are labelled as hater...
