Ten years ago or so, you could go Nevada and take your car out on a closed highway for some high speed experience and excitement. It looks like everything has now been shut down.

Does anyone know of a track where you can get a car up to 140-180 mph? I have some cars and motorcycles I'd like to take out and see what they can do and experience the feel of the car or bike as the designers expected it to be like.

(Whipping and sliding and braking and up and down shifting the car around a track is not what I'm looking for, already have that on the vacant canyon roads.)

COTA is a great track and the back straight gives you plenty of room to get up to 150+.

I hit about 140MPH in a stock Honda S2000 at Road Atlanta. 458 will probably top out around 170 there. VIR probably similar top speed.

There's plenty of oval tracks where you can reach those types of speeds.

Willow Springs, or California Speedway (in Fontana..is it still called Auto Club Speedway?).

on the east coast, Road Atlanta, Sebring, Daytona, VIR all have big speeds on the straights.

or do one of the closed course mile races, (Mojave Mile in CA, TX mile mentioned above) or something like the Virginia City Hill Climb, Silver State Classic, etc

I believe you are referring to open road "race" events. The Silver State Challenge is still going on in Nevada 2 x per year and the Virginia City Hill Climb once per year. As mentioned earlier, the Texas Mile and also the Sun Valley Road Rally if you want to travel a little further.

I did the Virginia City Hill Climb 3 yrs. ago in my CLS 63 AMG. I hit 130 on the last straight at the top of the hill. A 458 should do 150. That said, my times were fast that a lot of Ferrari's. It's at altitude so na cars will lose hp over turbo cars like the AMG. I highly recommend it. I was going to do it again this yr., Sept 16-17, in my Scud but my son is getting married that weekend so can't.

If you are in a Ferrari many (in fact the majority) of the tracks will enable you to go faster than 140 mph. For example I go faster than 140 mph in my Cayman at Sebring, Daytona, Homestead, Road Atlanta, VIR, Watkins Glen, Road America, COTA, etc.

That said I dont find straight-line speed that crazy, scary or fun compared to high speed corners.

I did 186 at Road America - that's the fastest - too bad there was a left turn lane at the end

Yes, but shouldn't turn 1 be an even faster entry?

Mosport is a fast track. The back straight can be scary fast. A couple of Canam cars became airborne there

As mentioned above, the Texas Mile
    offers 1.0 mile "acceleration runs."

At one time, when the event was in
Goliad Texas, I held the track record at 251.134mph
    for the standing start mile..........

Good luck up there Alan. I'll be tuning in to watch!

But be careful, that's a track that looks simple enough, but it can bite!
