Yeah...same here in Hawaii. We are finding out that wind turbines are killing a huge amount of birds. It's apparently so bad that there may be a complete ban for future land based turbines on the islands and sea based turbines may be in jeopardy as well.

When we did the 50th Anniversary of the B-17 an instructor and student (black) came to the celebration from the US Air Force Academy. I spoke with them in the airplane before they left. I asked the student how he liked the airplane. His answer, " This son of a ***** will kill you!"
Still working on my helicopter license cross country requirement. First pic is from yesterday flying over Oakland looking towards San Francisco. Second pic is on my way back from Petaluma (O69) to KHWD. Finally have my radio calls to the various controllers under control - now if my radio calls at un-towered airports were good, things would be so much better! -mick Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Felt like Tamas a couple days ago and did a Canadian trans-con flight. Montreal to Vancouver. This picture was taken towards the end of the flight and I think the local time was around 10:30PM give or take an hour. Not a great picture. I was in the middle so didn't have the best view. After I landed in YVR I ran through the airport to connect to Dallas. Very interesting travel itinerary to go from Montreal to Dallas. Image Unavailable, Please Login
1000 little cotton balls decending in to Nashville. More like concrete blocks 5 minutes later. Image Unavailable, Please Login
haha it is not fun! That is interesting...I would have guess Montreal - Toronto - Dallas. Glad to hear you landed safe. I'll be doing one of those cross country ones soon but not as long as Montreal to Vancouver! That is about as long as they get inside Canada.
I remember landing once in Denver where the sky looked like that. When we descended below the clouds the approach got very bumpy. Apparently below each of those clouds is a thermal, and we were going from one thermal to another very quickly. We were doing the bump & grind right down to the runway. Incidentally, that was my last ever flight in a DC-8 (series 71 on United).
Well I was supposed to go LGA-DFW but my YUL-LGA flight was cancelled last minute with no warning so I was able to get rebooked on YUL-YVR-DFW. we didn't have time to make the Toronto flight so this was the only option to get back to Dallas without staying the night. The flight to YVR wasn't too bad. I was in a middle seat on a WestJet but the IFE was good. It was a hectic travel day. I went through security and customs 3 different times. Total travel time from hotel to home was 17+hrs and it should have been 8-9hrs. Living in Dallas I'm lucky that I never have to do transcon flights since I'm right in the middle of the US. I guess that luck just ran out
