This is actually one of the biggest selling points for the Macs. Even though I can't use the power everywhere I go, the suspension/tub combo means that driving around on dodgy city streets doesn't require an ice bath and massage appointment afterward. We expect sport cars to be good on the track and winding mountain roads, but you can't do much better than a car that succeeds there and is also perfectly comfortable poking around the city.

A sports car is a machine you can bond with, a mechanical extension of yourself. I am struggling to think of a modern car, bar lotus, which has these attributes.

Yawn, not enough power, especially up there where is like that CA 4/108? That's like 8,000 feet, no power in a gutless car. I'll keep my turbo thank you.

Sorry I was confusing the 4c with a different car. Haven't driven the 4c looks like fun.

720 isn't sterile, and build quality better than most. Stiff, and it has a cage, not a tub. Brief drive felt far more solid than my 650, Speciale, or Huracan. I was surprised. They fixed the slightly under tired feel of 650, and it felt more like LT dialed back a tiny bit. Brief drive on performance prototype so not sure.

Huracan great looking in and out, but zero useful places for phone, 6+ too big for console? No easy plug for V1, only 1 in console, lid won't close.... But, fun to drive, demanding way out there, but easy enough that I broke my rule of no hard running first 2 days. I made it 3 hours.

Speciale is best mid engined Ferrari street car (F40 best track car) built. Love it. But screen, wheel, 3k rpm trombone drone which is 70mph in 7th make it difficult in town. The front lift changes handling imo, so another issue.

GT3 RS is awesome car, incredibly useful but beast. Aero works, 100+ in rain like a dry day. Mine came with Dunlop RaceMaxxes, and I was surprised. I hate dunlops. But truly, not worth bump over regular GT3, and not in same class as 720

650 really surprised me. I'd driven 12C and didn't like it, too anodyne. 650/675 far from it. Reviewers fall back to that as do YouTube pinheads. I bought 650 as bump to 675 was disproportionate and I couldn't get one new. Loved it though. Funny how people bitc4 about seat controls. They've been that way since beginning, memory easy, and seats great.

720 should be here very soon, might be first or second delivery. TX, so cf roof not glass. Performance, Saros grey, all the fun stuff, and little that doesn't keep it light. Doubt much depreciation for a bit once real tests out, dealers not getting many, 15-20 per store, 25 at most. Spider at least 1.5-2y out, prob need tub derived from cage. Old cars just tubs so taking top off was easy. 570 Spider due soon so we'll see then. I'm pretty sure Mark in NC has early 720 coming. Frefan, I didn't go way back in thread but seems you do too? I stuck hand up for LT too. Gotta live long enough.

PS Andrew. Base is 292 iirc. Mine is 365 iirc but numbers not set. Thanks Brexit.
Figure most in low 3's 325-335?

720s wasn't designed by FS. That credit goes to Robert Melville. McLaren have quite a few designers and FS is just one of them. He gets credit for the P1 but even that he did not do all by himself.

In reading his comments I do think he was in the wrong job, but it could be he was offered more money or responsibility. McLaren have come a long way in a short time and their employees are prime targets for being poached.

Hopefully he can rein in the size of the Mini... they're becoming VW buses.

    I don't think that's a styling thing, I think that's a market research thing :(

I heard somebody in the crowd say it was one of 20 in the U.S. Is it street legal?
The cockpit was decidedly race car like.
In Orange County CA back in April someone stole parts for a car that sounds like the same type but that article says only six were imported. Anyway here's the article, I am sure the thieves will be caught because they stole parts for too rare a car...
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Thursday, April 06, 2017

    SANTA ANA, Calif. (KABC) --
Two men were caught on surveillance video using a stolen truck to steal a motor coach and trailer from Global Motorsports Group in Santa Ana.

"Those things are not easy to move, park and maneuver out of the back so not seeing it was a shock and I had to do a double take," owner James Sofronas said.

Sofronas said the thieves spent nearly half an hour at the performance tuning and race team operation. The total loss is nearly $1 million.

"We've recovered their motor coach, unfortunately it was stripped. Their trailer, unfortunately all the McLaren and Porsche parts were taken," Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.

Those parts are what Sofronas is most frustrated about. They belong to his McLaren 570 GT4 race car, which is only one of about half a dozen in the U.S.

The expensive and extremely rare parts are causing headaches for the whole team as they prepare to have two cars race in this weekend's Long Beach Grand Prix. What is even worse is that they held an open house the day before the break-in.

"I'm inclined to think that maybe somebody was looking around a little bit longer and saw some opportunities to come in the next day and do what they did," Sofronas said.

Police are asking for help identifying the men. Sofronas is pleading for them to just bring the parts back.

If you have any information, you are urged to call the Orange County Crime Stoppers at (855) TIP-OCCS.

I've not driven Speciale or Huracan but otherwise your impressions echo mine. I had the 720S for 4 days and drove it plenty hard and plenty miles. Miles better (in many areas) than my former 650S which I absolutely loved.

Yeah I ordered the Memphis Red performance launch edition with the diamond-cut wheels. Last I heard it was scheduled to arrive in July but I don't hold out much luck for on-time delivery of a brand new car. I just received my new 2017 Porsche Panamera Turbo and it was about 4.5 months late from the delivery date Porsche quoted me back at Pebble Beach where I configured it and then the dealer confirmed when the order details arrived. A lot of things can delay the first shipments of new cars. They might find a little bug or quality issue and hold the cars back or certification might take longer. No matter what date it comes it can't be soon enough!

When I bought my last mini my sales person had just gone to a BMW meeting on future mini's to get dealer feedback

She said the dealers unanimously told them the Mini (especially the Clubman) should not get any bigger. It's losing it's uniqueness in the market.

The Clubman is turning out to be a dog for them.

Spent the first of 4 days driving the 720S on a mixture of roads, from woking to champagne on our way to monaco. I must say, that new 4 liter engine with the twin scroll turbos is amazing, throttle response is excellent, power is insane. On a short but open stretch we hit 165 with very little effort. Its very quick. Gearbox software is all new and very very good. I'd say as good as my 911 turbo s PDK which, as far as DCTs go, has been my favorite of the lot.

What do you think about the sound of the car (as compared to the 488, not to a NA V8)?

Wow that's saying a lot. GT3RS box is truly best DCT I've had, far faster than anyone's.
Surprised, it's a variant of the Graziano box that 650/675 used as I understand. The Porsche takes longer to flick paddle than to change gears.
    Enjoy the trip.

Mark, I've got Saros Grey Performance launch coming. I heard mid June as of last week, but ymmv. Should be fun. Wonder what color Frefan has?

    A couple of practical posts....

Here is the shelf storage behind the seats, very easy to access because of the roof cutout. You can put 2 of the briefcase size luggage back there without impairing your rear view. On the road trip I typically just put my jacket back there. Not my hat lol. Things do get a little warm back there but I don't think its due to engine heat but rather due to sun. At least my jacket was nicely pressed lol. Out the rearview that white strip is the spoiler when its in the sport mode.
