I just want to take a moment to appreciate the membership of Ferrari Chat who, by and large, are intelligent, civilized and respectable. This is in direct opposition to some other large auto forums (whom I will not name here), who have members with serious anger issues, who are rude and disrespectful with seemingly no real reason. I'm blown away reading how they attack people, for what appears to be the sheer pleasure of doing it. I was just reading a thread where a guy was getting skewered for expressing his opinion on a certain year and model of a car. I guess I'm describing all internet trolls. But I generally don't find that on Ferrari chat.
+1 Without F-chat, I would never have been able to make anything like an informed decision on my first F-car purchase. T
agreed, Ferrarichat has been very helpful and informative for me.. It is the first place I check for just about anything dealing with cars...
This site has been great for researching my first purchase (which I'm still working on!) but I will say the exception to the op is the pelicanparts forums for Porsche's. I had a 911 for about 7 years, and that site has a ton of friendly and incredibly knowledgeable people.
You're dreaming if you think that doesn't happen here. There is a thread here right now (one of many, just add it to the list) that is exactly as you described happening on a different forum. The expression "same crap, different pile" comes to mind.
I can't think of another Internet forum that comes close to Fchat in its general level of smarts, information, erudition, and self-policing. Maybe the nuclear physicists have one, but it's likely not comprehensible to ordinary mortals. There are a lot of smart, successful, witty, informed, interesting and passionate people on here. And some who aren't, but the average is so much higher.
I think generally it's pretty civil here, considering the size of the site and the relatively laid back approach of the moderators. It's a fine line, lots of gray, and they do a super job of herding the cats here. I can't comment about P&R, because I banned myself from there years ago, and hardly a day goes by that I don't think, "Wow that was smart!!" Now Rob sometimes doesn't help things much (see post above) but giving credit where it's due, he is the one who sets the tone here, which is usually pretty calm. D
Thanks to F-Chat, I was able to find the info necessary to make the decision to purchase my first Ferrari. Damn you F-Chat.
I'm a member on a lot of car forums. This, Pistonheads and 6speedonline are some of the nicest forums that I visit. AMOC is also filled with nice people, but not many people online there. There are however some car forums where people are downright rude and condescending. Stopped visiting those years ago. Jealousy on a car forum ... go figure.
In 2013 I bought 200 Bitcoin at $10, and this week Bitcoin hit close to $3000, so I'm here to figure out which new Ferrari to buy. I want one that runs good and sounds good with the stock exhaust system. Of course you can't buy a Ferrari with Bitcoin. Or should I stay in Bitcoin seeing if it hits $6000. It wasn't that way in the early days. But, Rob being the hard ass he is has molded this forum into a decent place. For example, in the early days, most of the Telaio gang held their noses and wouldn't participant, in part due to Glickenhaus's claims about his car. But over time, Wayne was able to bring them to the table. In fact, from what I recall Ferrari Chat ended up hosting Telaio on one of its dark sites, maybe it still does. Wait an minute! What's that black suburban doing parked outside my home?
I have seen a few feathers flying over the years. I miss the Lambo guys giving the F guys hell and visa versa. It kind of knocked down the barriers for me.
I have found the vast majority of folks here very respectful, friendly and helpful. I have a few on ignore but overall just a great group. I bought a Ducati 959 and went on that forum. I was met with snarky responses, rudeness and just negativity. And some of this was from the moderators. I brought up how we treated everyone better on FChat and I got laughed at. I sold that POS Ducati. Bye bye Ducati forum as well. So yes I agree. Not all forums are nice.
Spend time on one of the Z forums and you learn to really appreciate forums like this. Between here and the Lotus forums I don't go to others any more.
