I think everyone's ultra softs were starting to go away, but when Vettel started pushing when Kimi was getting tires, Vettel's tires responded by heating up, giving him some unexpected grip instead of going away further like most do.

Also, note how Vettel was growing the gap once he got into P1. Kimi was obviously faster in qualifying but during the race, it seemed he lost concentration earlier, so he continued to lose ground as the race wore on.

Looked to me that Kimi back off almost immediately. Wasn't allowed to challenge Vettel, and today it was impossible to pass, so just went to save the engine...Look at Verstappen, brand new Ultrasofts and didn't have a chance against Bottas

+1 Bas. Kimi knew he wouldn't be allowed to challenge if Seb got ahead, and took it easier, letting Ricci cruise up so far and then matching him. Pretty mature of him to be fair, and totally a team player even if he would rather win... classy by Kimi I'd say

Exactly. Just like when I instruct my 10 yr old son to do something that is ultimately not what he wants to do. My son does it and even verbally says, "ok daddy"...but his body language clearly shows he's not happy about it.

    Well, I beg to differ.

If, as some say, Vettel was quicker, I would have preferred to see him passing Raikkonen on the track rather than in the pits.

It's drivers fighting wheel to wheel on the track that's interesting to watch, not the speed of the tyre crew in the pit lane !!

Congrats to SF. First Monoco win since Schumi. Nice 1,2.

Vettle has slight Drivers lead while Kimi sits behind Bottas in the standings.

So SF still behind Merc in the Constuctors standings. Merc sells 1.88 MILLION vehicles a year. SF 10,000.

    David and Goliath indeed.

But there wouldn't be much passing, would there. Even with new tyres etc, people don't do much passing, imagine on old tyres, itd be as boring as watching elton do a music gig

My point is that Merc has vast resources compared to SF. David and Goliath.

Well, if you go that way, what do you make of Red Bull or Williams that won championships without producing a single car !!

The fact is that Ferrari and Mercedes have roughly the same F1 budget, so are competing on more or less equal terms. Well ahead of Renault, Williams, Force India, etc...

McLaren only became a manufacturer recently, whilst Lotus was a dwarf compared to Ferrari when they had their successful era too, with far less facilities than Ferrari with its own test track, etc...

Why this obsession people have with passing?

Racing isn't only about passing, surely.

Not a happy Kimi - Kimi Raikkonen says his second place in Monaco doesn't count a lot - F1 - Autosport

Amid suggestions his race strategy was chosen in a way that would benefit Vettel's title hopes, when asked why he pitted when he did, Raikkonen added: "I was called in. That is about it.

"Obviously they had reasons for it, but it is not up to me to answer.

"I can stop the car if I like [in the pits] as I am driving it, but we work as a team and if you don't believe what you have been told or how it works it will get very complicated.

I think Kimi is very diplomatic, but he must be boiling inside.

It's never a good feeling to be overtaken by your team mate as the result of a pit stop orchestrated by your team.

There is always a cloud of suspicion hanging over it.

Vettel can say all he wants.....this is not about to go away..... at all. I have no idea what to believe. Kimi is more credible at this point LOL :)

Couldn't Kimi have pressed harder before he pitted for tires? Isn't it usual to do that before pitting?

    This.

We don't get all the radio and when he got on the radio he said ''So we are pitting now?'' as a question, so presumably it was part of a conversation. My gripe is that they knew he'd come out in traffic, and had he stayed out for one or 2 more laps he'd be ahead of that traffic. Ferrari knows this, anyone with half a brain knows this...This was their switch, and I understand it...Just didn't want to. I'll certainly like it a lot more if Vettel wins the title by less than 7 points (from Hamilton...obviously!)

Im thinking its a bit early for a 'switch' but as a fan I do not matter.

Not at all, but if a driver is faster than his followers, is it a tragedy if they cannot manage to overtake him? I don't think so.

Do we have" to throw a spanner in the works" and create opportunities for the competitors to pass the car in front?

To me, that's artificially interfering with the race.

Today's GPs are sprint races, of relatively short duration. They don't need tyre changes or refuelling, so why perverting the race by insisting having them?

F1 must be the only sport event that likes to handicap the leaders during a race!!
