Liberty won't allow F1 drivers to miss a GP to race elsewhere in future. If Indy clashes with Monaco again, like it does, it's a no-no. They were caught by surprise this year and didn't react on time to prevent this episode.
Let's be fair, Alonso racing at Indy was a blow to the Monaco GP. Alonso diverted attention from F1 calendar Crown Jewel to an equally prestigious race in a rival series on another continent: the Indy 500. When one of the top drivers on the F1 grid neglects the championship and takes with him the media spotlight to Indy racing, it's a problem, IMO. Indy racing may have benefited in terms of attendance or viewership, I don't know, but it was a slap in the face for F1 right holders. So, I wouldn't be surprised at all if Liberty and the FIA do their utmost to prevent a repeat in future, to protect their interests.
Nope. If that was even remotely true he wouldn't have been at Indy. His first choice… F1… Mercedes. LeMans… Porsche has stated no room for Alonso. End of story… LOL. Your post is a fairy tale.
If it does'nt clash with the Monaco weekend then yes, Alonso will do Indy. If it clashes with the Monaco weekend, then no since the FIA will put its foot down in 2018. Hulk did Le'Mans and F1 in 2015 but they did not clash on dates. In 2016 Hulk could'nt do Le'Mans due to an altered F1 schedule. BTW, that option is not on the poll.
Don't Monaco and Indy always fall on the same weekend? I can't remember when they haven't, but I honestly don't watch the Indy 500 too often. I hope he comes back, but I feel he won't as his F1 car next year will be more competitive. He'll be back to Indy imo after his F1 career is finished.

Wow. You really have some tinted glasses... You really think Alonso can do whatever's he wants? Why isn't he in a Mercedes? And yes I watched some of the 500. I also watched the Monaco GP... I saw Hamilton and bottas in the silver cars. That's reality too. He has choices ,... no doubt. That's very different than what you said. End of story
Perhaps this is my ignorance, but why is Monaco always on the same weekend as Indy? I remember as a kid getting up to watch the Monaco GP, it was one of the few times per year Formula 1 was on broadcast TV in the US. And then later that day...Indy. But why does F1 wish to prevent its drivers from also racing at Indy, and for that matter Lemans? Granted manufacturers in F1 do not have teams at Indy (except Honda as engine supplier) or Lemans in the prototypes. Imagine moving Monaco back one week and having a "mini break" the last half of May in F1, you never know what drivers may try Indy.
Series compete against each other to capture audiences, spectators and TV viewers. It's all about commercial interests. The F1 right holders don't want to see their drivers diverting their fans to watch another series. The sponsors won't like it either. Beside, an accident in another series can jeopardise the rest of the season, etc ... It's about maintaining exclusive rights.
Monaco's timing is based on Lent, which moves around. (Btw it's always just after the Cannes film festival which is why so many celebs show up for the race). The 500 is always the last Sunday of May. So sometimes they separate but with Indy qualifying being a week earlier it's still difficult to do both.
Monaco, Indy, Brickyard are all on memorial day weekend. Every.single.year. Manaco in the morning, then Indy during the day then the brickyard in the afternoon. They don't even conflict with each other for viewership. Best weekend for a race fan.
Not to mention that Indy is two weekends plus. The only way to avoid conflict would be for F1's full-month summer break to coincide with Indy.
I have not watched the 500 in many years. Alonso is the only reason I planned to watch the entire race this year. My wife and I enjoyed the day, watching Monaco and then the 500. It seems to us both races benefited.
Zak Brown will do whatever is necessary to keep Alonso. If that means letting him drive at Indy, I'm betting he has the clout with Liberty to make it happen.
I knew that when he was pushing his POS Ferrari around the tracks to get some actual points for the team.
