A period photo from my collection of what appears to be the same car at LeMans. The grey haired gentleman in the tweed blazer is John Bauce. Coco Chinetti with his back to us and Goodyear driving suit. Sam Posey with his distinctive helmet on. Tony A speaking to Sam.
Leaning on car #57 are Dick Fritz and Wayne Sparling.
We had #38 in my shop while it was being offered for sale by Bill Kontes. At a track event in Florida Sparling had me jack up the car and crawl underneath with him so he could so me chassis repairs he had performed to the car. Wayne is another one of my mechanic idols I met while coming up through the ranks and a dear friend of Iori's.

I love that green boxer. it amazes me that it's one of one, you'd think people in the 70's would be buying cars in those crazy colors left and right....

Aside from the rare color, the fog light placement is correct for a 365 BB? I know 512 BB's (carburated) were built both ways depending on the country of delivery, where the grill extend fully with out the fog lights integrated and a shorter grill with fog lights on each side. I though all 365 BB's had the full grill treatment with the fog lights set behind the grill.

Thank you all for the pictures! I hope you all had a lot of fun! VDE just seems so special, I know there is some criticism of how the show has evolved (devolved?!)- I hope the organizers listen to the criticism and keep this a special event.

    Geno,

I was told that German delivered cars in 75 had the short grill, so this would be correct for this car.

Thanks Marcel. I guess that describes it. I hope they realize this will be counter productive in the long run.

No F40 was shown at the Villa d'Este Concours.

You probably mean the auction at Villa Erba. Totally different event.

The Alfa SS was at the Santa Fe Concorso last year and I took a lot of pics. It is the prototipo. At the risk of polluting this thread w/ non VDE pics, I'll post them later today.

I've got almost a thousand of both Villa d'Este and Villa Erba but I'm still in Italy and heading back tomorrow if British Air can sort themselves out so I can round up a few, but it might take a few days. Unless someone else wants to post some now..

Anoher pic of the Alfa with the owner. Excuse my fat thumb in front of the camera lens on phone. Wife loved this car out of all the incredible cars as I shook my head in disbelief. She saw something most did as they voted it BOS.
