All those 'blues' would certainly be of great interest for someone wanting to go in that color direction.

Sadly these days quality is still blindly talked about but has become in reality a quaint notion. Quality has been sacrificed in cunning ways by the insatiable appetite for profit.

The tri-strato yellow has become a favourite of tdF customers.

....And to keep the pricing point (starting) as close to, or the same, as the outgoing model.....I personally believe it's the pricing point in order to increase number of units sold....

going off topic...can anyone explain how the GTC4L is leaps-and-bounds ahead of the FF (technologically speaking), 4RM2, 4WS, and and and...yet the base price is same as FF???

The same goes for 812SF......there is a sacrifice somewhere and it's not in the power or technology......

There is a logical explanation for that, one that has nothing to do with reducing quality. Manufacturers spend a small fortune on R&D, especially companies like Ferrari (on a per-car basis). This is then amortised over production. So a large portion of the price the buyer pays goes towards relieving the up-front development cost.

When the new model arrives, the development team pick up where the last model left off. The cost of getting, say the F12, developed to where it is has been amortised over the F12 run. The 812's development budget gets all that 'for free'. So we get multiple improvements for really only the price of the increase in production cost of any new technologies - and new technology may also cost less to produce than old did.

Ferrari or any other manufacturer may still decide to increase their price based on a major new piece of technology, but this is rarely about cost but more likely about what they suspect the market will bear, or part of a particular market-based pricing strategy they wish to adopt.

As with other manufacturers, Ferrari seem reluctant to threaten their sales momentum by significantly increasing their relative pricing position within the market. Probably sensible given how much of this forum is given over to talking about competitors such as Porsche and McLaren.

Thank you for the explanation and seems logical enough to me. So why, for example, is there such a reduction in quality of leather, which by no longer disputed and has become fact ? Plastic being all over the place.....I'm trying to make sense of it all.....my GTC4L came to Sfr400K before the 10% disc and I'm having to discuss quality with gents such as yourself.....in kicking myself for trading-in my beloved FF.....although not as refined, it was the most awesome car I have ever owned

I think the answer to your question is that you are both correct. I don't now about Ferrari, but other companies have engineers whose sole task is to do cost engineering- to find places where they can reduce costs but without the customer really noticing it. You might be particularly sensitive to a change in materials, the question is whether or not the market place is. Sorry to hear about your FF, you know sometimes you just find a car that suits you perfectly. If you don't really love the GTC4, maybe after some time you can trade it back and find another FF plus maybe some cash?

I think you have to remember the FF/F12 and GTC4/812 are all on a shared platform and the new cars are evolution models. Its the next generation that you will see the "revolution", and the associated costs will get amortized over the life spans of those gen 1 cars as well as what I would expect there to be a gen 2.
