It's only taken a year to start hanging some garagenalia, still more to put up, maybe next year Image Unavailable, Please Login
An FHP steering ECU arrived in the mail yesterday. By all accounts it should make a big difference to the steering feel. I'll report back when I get it back on the road. Currently the interior is in pieces awaiting refinishing of all the sticky bits Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks for your input. Out of interest, this is what the standard vs FHP ECU output looks like. The assistance drops off pretty rapidly with the FHP ECU and hopefully this will translate to better road feel. Does feel a bit ponderous at times at the moment Image Unavailable, Please Login
Greg, my understanding is that changing the steering ECU only works for later 575's fitted with an additional steering sensor (lots of discussion about this in the 550/575 section). You need to fit the HGTC rated springs, which are similar to a 550 and dramatically improve the high speed cornering and steering feel, while eliminating initial understeer. Ironically, they also improve the low speed ride. Best $1100 I ever spent. Buy a set and I'll help you fit them, takes about a day.
Re the steering ECU, that is only for the HGTC Suspension ECU which has an additional steering sensor. The ECU I bought is part of the 575 FHP and will also work on the 550 and 456. You need one too Feel free to borrow it and see what you think. I wont have the car back on the road till late July I'll take up your offer re the springs. I'll just need PP to run down to FF and pick them up
Ian, just to clarify The 575 was delivered with the steering ECU #168034 (that's what both our cars have) The FHP kit included a different ECU#175891 (which is what I bought and will work on our cars) The suspension ECU was changed several times during the 575 model life. The HGTC SUSPENSION ECU will give off a warning light on our cars as we don't have the additional steering sensor (later 575 models do) Here is an extract from the Factory Bulletin re the FHP upgrade Image Unavailable, Please Login
All interesting stuff malaka. Reckon all these changes are worth the effort though? I haven't driven a 575, only a 550 with a manual box and I thought it was great.
