A 1981 308GT4 ?

Huh? Is there something wrong with this picture?

very odd...especially being a carb car.

 

36615 is an 81 GTSi

So, yeah, something is a little off

(Didn't all the GT4's have even number VINs?)

 

15584 is listed as the chassis number later in the ad

 

This is a euro car and it was common to list the model year as the first year it was titled. Apparently that was in Feb 1981.

 

Must be one of Al's cars. At that price it must be a complete concours restoration too.

 

The trunk carpet is wrong ,the windscreen arms too(not black in origin),the air filter box is issing of a metallic plaque.

 

And the original Ansa muffler box was black painted.

 

I don't think the wiper arms are black (I think that's just the lighting).

I think some had a plaque and some didn't.

 

Good catch guys!!!! The correct VIN number is 15584. (Ebay issue...all good now.) Odometer reading is in Kilometers not miles, vehicle has 71,456 Kilometers. this a true Euro car, (just brought in from Europe.)
Vehicle's wipers, trunk carpet, amber/yellow fog lights and headlights were original to how the car was build and mandated for its local region by the importer when new. The plaque on the air-box was not installed on this one when new. The polished exhaust is NOT factory equipment, but it is a custom performance muffler build to exact factory look and mounting points. Since its arrival to our facility we have completely overhauled the engine, rebuild the trans-axle assembly. All suspension components, cooling system, brake system have been restored to its utmost originality or to improved function. Plus lots more....This one needs nothing!!

 

Please note that the 308GT4s, when they received a full 17-position VIN, which, to the best of my knowledge, is only the case for the last batch of RHD UK cars (about 15 cars or so...)
had a VIN that began by ZDF, not ZFF.
"ZDF" were attributed to "Dino"; "ZFF" are for "Ferraris" only; it does prove that legally, a "Dino" is not a Ferrari...
"Dinos" have even chassis numbers, not odd.

The cars seems to come from the french importer Charles Pozzi; I don't know if this is relevant to the discussion, but Pozzi had the habit to keep cars "on the shelf" for quite some time after the production ended: they had two brand new very late production yellow/black 328 GTSs "on the shelf" for ten years...

French cars did indeed have yellow headlights and foglights until the mid-eighties.
As it does happen from time to time with the French, we were convinced to be the only one in the world to be right on that matter...until someone here decided that yes, the rest of the world had white headlights and no more accidents at night, so perhaps...

Don't start with the Dino is not a Ferrari nonsense. We are on Ferrari chat not Dinochat, And 308 Gt4 owners have titles that say Ferrari

 

It was Ferrari, not us, that was trying to keep the GT4 from being a Ferrari. Blame them for the even number and the D

Whatever you think of it, or importance you give to it, the fact is that when Ferrari applied for the 17 position international VIN system, they applied for different VINs for Ferraris and for Dinos.
The GT4 that have 17 positions VINs (a small batch of the last RHD UK cars) do not have the same VINS as Ferraris: they begin by "ZDF" instead of "ZFF". Meaning "Dino" was indeed considered as a brand in itself by the Factory. That's all, but that's a fact. This is why a 308GT4 cannot have a VIN beginning by "ZFF" and ending with an even chassis number.
You, and anyone else, might indeed consider the 308GT4 as a "Ferrari". But according to the Vehicle International Number logic, it is different.

Remember that the first 308 GTB prototypes were also badged "Dino", Dr Tommy, and intended to be sold as such. There are pictures of these cars tested on the Italian roads in the period press, with "Dino" badges and no "Ferrari" script or badge anywhere...

Very nice looking car!! GLWS. Supposably the last sunroof car produced, wish I had a sunroof in my 75. I saw this ad for the other day on eBay and emailed AL to see if the ad was correct cause it said 1981 and thought it was a mistake and wanted to let him know. I always thought production ended in 1980?? Does anyone have any info on the last 308 GT4 produced? This has to be close to that...

 

I have a picture of an unfinished nose piece on a GTB. The badge recess is clearly shaped for a Dino badge.

 

Indeed. Our cars are "Dinos"; their value should expand twofold (at least...)

Well sir my car is 1975 chassis # 09966 no ZDF, zff ,or abc, just F106al09966 and a Ferrari title. Ive owned this car since 2001 and nothing but phrases in the community about no value, not a Ferrari etc, since I bought it. But it is a rare machine as far as production. And also parts and maintenance etc are way into the "ferrari' pricing, and especially body parts etc are way into that category. if it was a fiat I could understand, but its not. I don't know if I should buy them all and bury them or what. Sick sick of hearing about whether or not it is or isn't, and the funny thing is that its mostly from gtb or gts owners. who cares, everyone has a magnum car and 99% of them are red. Ooo exciting,

 

Um, my car is red.. You DO know that only REAL Ferrari's are red right? 🤥

Me too. More now than ever and that has nothing to do with any prediction of value increases. I just want one more because as years pass, I have really grown to appreciate them.

I have always "liked" them. I guess now that I have owned a QV for 20 years and driven it 60,000 plus miles, I have gotten enough of it out of my system to have room for a new Ferrari desire.

 

I doubt any one of us believes it isn't a "Ferrari". Like I said earlier, It was Ferrari trying to make it something else, not the public. Not us.
