    Hello all
Is it possible to clear all fault codes from the ecu without the engine running.
ODB2 connection seems not to work or won't connect without car running. This seems odd to me that this is the case? I have to replace a crank angle sensor. Hoping this is the reason my car won't start but thought it would be great to clear all codes/faults fire engine up before I remove eng for major service.

I clear codes with key in "on" position and engine off.

Have you tried with the ignition key on ON (prior to start)? The ECU needs to be powered for there to be communication with the ECU and the reader.

Does your OBD2 reader harness include a cigarette lighter plug? On the F355 (1994 Euro), the cigarette lighter comes straight off the battery, so you don't have to have the car running to get power to the lighter. Not sure about later Aussie cars.

I have a 96 5.2 car. I have a bluetooth Kiwi code reader. I have also used a standard Actron code reader. No issues reading or resetting codes from either.

The kiwi has the ability to live stream and record data to your phone. Pretty neat to monitor fuel trim, o2 sensors, and other stuff is real time. It takes a minute or two for it to connect to my phone, but works well.

Really need a model No for the Actron reader to many to choose from?. That info would be great. Is kiwi Bluetooth a kiwi model 1,2 or 3?

My Actron is at least 5 or more years old, I am sure there are better models available now. I dont think there is anything special about mine. If your vehicle is OBD2 and functioning correctly most readers should work. Unless there is something special about Aussie models.

I have a Kiwi2 using the dash command App on android. The newer models may have features that work better. It takes some time to get used to the Dash command app, as I didnt find it very intuitive. Once I figured out that the settings button on the phone opened up some settings things got easier! HTH.

Mine is a us spec car out of Saudi. Can't seem to get a tool to connect to ecu. Even tried a few expensive ones. If you had time to get me the model No of your Actron reader that would help emensly. Not many of these cars in Australia. Even less imported cars

Do you have the 16 pin dash connection or the 3 pin ecu connection (behind the passenger seat?) You say US spec, but out of Saudi Ariabia maybe no 16 pin dash connection?
When you remove the panel behind the passenger seat , do you have a capped off connection next to the ECU?
If so, you can try it the Euro way, with a 10 euro Fiat OBD1 to OBD2 cable, and power from the sigarette lighter.
That way you can bypass the whole 16 pin connection and wires, if the problem should be there.
It worked for my euro car. I have 2 readers, the newest being an Autel from around 100 -125 euro. But also the cheaper one did work with the Fiat cable.

Both. odb2 under steering column and the 3 pin plug behind seat, there connected Together(continuity check confirms). It's connected but I can't get the code reader to talk to the ecu? I have tried a couple but no cigar!!

Did you have the OBD recall done? This was a FNA mod to the OBD plug under the dash that allowed it work. It's a simple addition of a ground to a pin. I'll find the recall doc with instructions if you need it.

If the OBD plug is under the dash you should be able to get it to work.

For my 98 F1, and the scanner I have, the car must be started. I used it on my dad's Chrysler and it had to be started as well. On my Maserati GT, key has to be to position II but not started. Go figure.

Paul, I've just tried an Innova 3100 ABS, with a 3 pin "for Fiat" adaptor (A$10 from Australia) on my '98 Spider. To get it to work, I had to disable the alarm and turn the ignition key to RUN. The reader came with a small manual which didn't tell me much and I unintentionally deleted all the messages stored in the ECU before I looked at all of them. Later, I downloaded the complete (pdf) manual.

Do you have the 3100 "ABS" version? I read on FChat that the earlier, pre-ABS models wouldn't hook up.

If you have a us car and follow the links I sent regarding the OBD port you might. Be able to get that working and then with a $20 wifi OBD transmitter and free phone app you will have a full range of diagnostic options.

The arming / disarming of the alarm are verified by beeps, not the immobilizer. For example, if car is locked and immobilizer is active, deactivated it causes no beeps.

How do you know if the immobiliser is working/not working? 96 US spec car. My car won't crank eng until you press fob button. It always gives 2 beeps and 2 flashes then starts.
