I think Brian called me a dumb ass or something close once. He was right.

Was this the guy that built and sold the oil sump baffle for the 3X8 and Mondials?

I think someone down under had something to do with the initial batch of those things to the public.

Have you seen my Web pages about him? There's another side to him that you didn't see. There's a reason why he was permanently banned..... And it wasn't because he offered friendly and helpful advice

If you have been on here long enough, you realize everyone has a personality and quirks... After 10 years on here, you kind of get to know people...

Brian's wisdom is invaluable... He likes to chime in, give some info... All appreciated.

Brian gives partial answers... It's his style... To me, the motivation seems partly to protect his business, which I can't fault. If you shared all your secrets, you could put yourself out of business.

Some other pros on here will walk you through an issue...

Usually, if you search through dozens of threads, you find he gave some pearls on what you need...

Everyone on here contributes, but everyone does it differently...

Typically if he sees you about to do something really stupid, he will tell you...

    Kumbaya :)

Maybe you have to be a tech to understand what he his saying. Many times I have laughed so hard over his responses my stomach hurt for a couple of hours afterwords. Not because what be said was wrong, but because it's what all us tech's sometimes think. He just has the nuts to say it.

Brian and Scott are both valued additions to this Forum. They each bring valued perspective and experience.

I hope Scott can 'chill' and that Brian takes no offense - this Forum would worse off if either left.

Folks like Brian, Scott and Steve M. and many others are a HUGE asset to us all.

    I appreciate all of you!

    Cheers,
    Vincenzo
    PS:
The only folks I don't appreciate are the scam artists who misrepresent their cars on this Forum in hopes of selling at an inflated price..... my bad!

I beg to differ. He was sarcastic, disrespectful and acting like a know it all who had a right to receive information. Perhaps that's normal behavior to some but not to me.

Hej, what can I say. The truth hurts sometimes.

Completely agree. He has a right to be a bit grumpy sometimes. I wouldn't spend my spare time on a web board helping people out in my area of expertise. We ought to be grateful that he and others do.

I do. And have fun doing so. Also on other forums, especially on a german CAD-forum. It's all 'give-and-take' here and there. And we have many more techs who do without calling others idiots or worse in the case they don't get it in the first instance.
Did I mention Steve M. ? Oh sorry, I already did.

I think I know what Brian's problem is. He has such big experience, that he simply doesn't need experience, hints and tips from others. It's no 'give-and-take' for him, but only 'give'.
Sometimes it can get frustrating, knowing too much.

I understand, Martin, and it's great you do that. Really. I know science and academia is full of people sharing their knowledge. But this board needs all the informed people, regardless of their etiquette. It would be very hard to argue that Fchat would be better without Rifledriver, looking at his (literally) thousands of contributions. And his knowledge is respected by everyone in a position to judge. That's more important than anything else. If I visit a technician working on my car, I care about their ability more than anything else.

I feel it's important to say this, because I read contributions by him and other star contributors all the time, and don't give them credit in writing every time. I appreciate them.

Brian is NOT a tech. He is a ****ing mechanic. You know, one of those guys who fixes cars. The day you need the Geek Squad to fix your Ferrari is the day we all need to hang it up. My local MB guy is from Argentina. He is not a plug and play tech. He is a mechanic. Like Brian, he doesn't just hook up a computer and rip and run by a book rate.

Frankly, I don't even try to work on cars anymore. I'm a tax guy. I know my limitations. But Brian is one of the few people who I would take my car to and say, "Fix it. If it looks like the budget will go over say $10 grand, call me."

You make it sound like "techs" are only plug and play types.

In many circles, a Tech (short for Technician) is someone who's received formal training and has considerable experience as well. Traditionally, a "mechanic" is all encompassing of those who fix mechanical things.

    So please, don't denigrate "techs".
