Hi all, I have done a few searches on here and seem to get some conflicting information. Here is some background - I have a Euro spec 85 QV, and the main fault with the car is that it will not rev over 5500rpm. It pulls well to 5500 but then it almost feels as if the rev limiter is kicking in. The car was due a service, so have had that done and the problem is still there. The company doing the service thought it may be the ECU's, of which my car has a pair of MED802A's fitted. They got a replacement pair that they have in stock, fitted them, and hurrah, it pulls all the way to 7000rpm. Put the old ones back on, back to 5500rpm. They have tried numerous combinations, one new one old ECU, but the problem persists. It is only with the replacement 802A's that the car runs fine. So alas, I have two questions: 1. Has anyone had a similar problem of the rev limiter cutting in at 5500rpm, and if so, what was the fix? 2. Contrary to what I have seen here on Fchat, are the MED802A units correct for my car? I have been advised that MED803A unit is in fact the correct unit? - see here http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/308-328-sponsored-yellow-compass-group/251197-marelli-ignition-module-med-805a.html Look forward to all replies and finally getting my car running right! Thanks, Ryan
I believe 80,81, and 82 uses the 802A. I was able to find the 803A on eBay to replace my 805A, they are getting hard to find but your best bet is F of Bedford. Or just keep searching.
Ryan, is originality of importance to you? If not, the Nick's Forza Ferrari programmable ignition system is a greatly superior ignition system that is less expensive than a pair of the Digiplex controllers. I've been chasing a slight misfire over 5700 rpm on my Euro 308 QV for a while, and I've replaced coils, wires, distributor caps, extenders, spark plugs, vacuum lines, it seems everything but the Digiplexes. I want to check a few things with the fuel injection, but if those don't help, then it's off to order this system: electromotive XDI direct coil ignition
Gordon, Ideally I'd like to keep the car as original as possible. The 5500 rpm problem is more annoying that anything else. The fact that the shop fitted another pair of ECU's and it revved to over 7000 makes me think that it's just my ECU's that are faulty.
