I am taking my 930 into the dealer on Monday for an annual and some minor work. I will see if I can get the front brake part number of the car when the car goes on the rack. That may resolve some of my issues/questions you have raised in my mind. Especially if that part number is the same as one of your parts. Thanks for the information.

I will also talk to the dealer's master mechanic who mainly works on all the older/classic cars for the dealer. Some have said he is one of the best techs in CA? I am not that knowledgeable to make that judgement but he is very good on the vintage 911s.

To my knowledge there is no part number on the caliper itself. I took this picture from the parts catalog (1974-77) I have, it has the part#s and the vehicles they were fitted too (two Pt#s above the ruler).
    I looked up these using pt#s and found;
    http://www.sierramadrecollection.com/911-912-65-73-/Brakes/Front-Brakes/S-Caliper-Front-Left-911-72-77-p27559.html
I remember these were available genuine but now appear to be nla from pelican and this supplier repro only.

Ryan’s Carrera 2.7 book has a detailed section on brakes and it includes the ’75-77 3-liter Turbos. The S-type caliper was fitted to the 3-liter Turbo front brakes and they had a greenish-gold tint. When I bought my car, mine were off of my car in a box of parts. If you look carefully at originals, you can find the Fuchs logo since they made the aluminum housing for ATE.

Well all the information you and idart have supplied me really shows the value of this forum. Thanks, just wish I had found this forum when I was looking for the parts a few years ago would have saved me a lot of time and energy. I guess there are a lot of parts shops out there which don't know S**t from Shinola. You would have thought just by dumb luck I would have stumbled across at least one who knew what they were talking about?

Hmmm well that said I am not displeased with the fix I finally came up with having the part sleeved with stainless tubes as that seems like a permanent fix to the issue and I have still have the original parts in my car. Is it possible a few years original parts were not available and aftermarket reproductions had not yet entered the market place when I was looking, that would be about the only thing that would vindicate all the places I shopped and got bogus answers?

    Playboy August 1976 Issue.

Wave Goodbye - Brock Yates, the Editor of Car and Driver, writer of Smokey and the Bandit and The Cannonball Run's 930 Turbo

High resolution article linked here for those who wish to read: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/dfoefoew76hlt80/AACOENBX2XZz5GKWnQPX8MVfa?dl=0

The last three sentences have an amazing crystal ball sorta statement:

Presuming this to be true, we can only puzzle over the success of the Turbo and what new model that will generate. May we suggest a twin-turbocharged version, the first car capable of an honest 200 mph on the open road, priced at $50,000? The lines forms on the right.

Your car is looking good, I sent you a PM about paint jobs, hopefully you will be able to reply.

I've been following your threads so I know you have had several cars done by various shops and am interested in finding out your average expense for a high quality windows out repaint?

Did the PM thing to keep my request confidential but after pondering on it for a little bit I see no need.

So, anybody who's had a car repainted and wants to give their 2 cents worth please feel free to give their guidance

    Thanks, turbo owner

We did the unthinkable: Took the car on a 2700km road trip, to Hamburg, on the car train overnight to Verona, to St Tropez, Narbonne, Barcelona, Madrid and then to Lisbon.

500ml of oil consumption, inside 3 days, with challenging times finding 98 octane in Italy, but one flawless ride.

(I have a ton of pics form a great photographer that joined me, but somehow have no more storage space I can use. Anyone know why?)

Congratulation on a nice adventure with the old girl, they used to be the top Grand Touring cars in the '70 and they still are today.
Well done for stretching the car on such a long cross-continental journey.

    Many thanks for the pictures.

PCA Spiel newsletter translation of the 1973 Auto Motor Sport article of the new Turbo at the Frankfurt Auto Show. Interesting to note that AMS introduced the new model as the Turbo Carrera.

Great find Rich. I really like the side script. It's too bad it was never an option.

Great road trip, Simon! These cars are terrific long distance tourers, with the ability to thrill at the first corner or press of the loud pedal. Nice to see an early 930 being used. I thought my 500 km trip was good, but you have given me something to aspire to.

Maybe I'll do Toronto - Mosport - Ottawa - Montreal - Mt Tremblant - Quebec City. I'm not sure it is the French Riviera, but would be a fun trip.

Haha - yes, thats not Germany to Italy to France to Spain to Portugal, but it sounds like one hell of a ride!

The cars need driving, they hate you if they just sit 8)

Interesting photo as it shows the front vanity plate as "911 turbo". I always thought the term was regulated to later cars, especially after the introduction of the 924 turbo in '77. I presume factory monikers such as 930, Turbo Carrera and 911 Turbo were all used to different degrees from its conceptual beginning. The 924/931s were on the drawing boards at Porsche at about this time.

The '73 Frankfurt Show car was indeed a rare use. The only place you'll find a 911 Turbo label on production cars is on the RoW 3-liter engine fan decal.
