Very few are disputing VET's penalty. The point is that HAM should have also received a penalty. If you have evidence that the stewards examined his telemetry., please show us. Just because the lead car sets the pace behind the safety car does not give its driver permission to drive erratically, which brake testing definitely is.
I'm not convinced of that. It's Vettel's responsibility to be far enough back to not hit Hamilton. He wasn't. I think Vettel was playing games with Hamilton being so close and trying to push him closer to the pace car. There was no reason for him to be that close with the safety car lights still on. I like Vettel but today he was just dumb. If Vettel loses the championship by a few points he should look back at this race.
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOI2It_W3No[/ame] I'll leave this here. To me it's clear Hamilton braked. The graphic shows, my eyes can tell, and Vettel is not unreasonable, he'd accept blame if it was his own fault, but he's very clearly aggravated that Hamilton DID brake check. Vettel shouldn't have done what he did (love Elton's sob story, as ever...From that alone you can tell he was not innocent either! Playground tactics), but one thing he has going for him is it happened at very low speed, like giving a bloke a slap in the pub when he's being an obnoxious **** as a warning, and not coming out with a baseball bat straight away .
Different tactics. LH subtle, SV psycho. Say what you want, LH has matured, SV is still an immature child.
Hamilton's post race interview was LAME "Gee I hope this way of driving doesn't filter down to all those kids out there...". What a wimp azz comment. He had the upper hand but just couldn't help sticking his foot in his mouth.
I agree, but the Merc would likely have better traction, aero, better software on their engine. Otherwise both drivers had an identical number of 29 laps on their last pair of super softs. I really don't see any F1 driver not being able to go flat out on a final back straight.
no I think he might have lifted too early, or just a combination of reasonable exit out of last braking zone vs Bottas having an amazing one. I do think it's the latter. Unlucky regarding that but didn't take away from his happiness today.
No, I don't have "evidence" that the stewards examined the telemetry, although they have that option, and they took advantage of it in previous incident. So I will stick my neck out, and presume they did. So, no mister, I don't have evidence. What next? Will you ask me for an affidavit too? This is a forum, not a court of law!!! In fact, Hamilton wasn't driving erratically at all. Just leading the pack, weaving like the others, giving bursts of accelerations, braking, etc... to keep some heat in the tyres until he receives the signal that the safety car is coming in. Then the leader is the one who gives the signal of the restart, not the impatient drivers behind him. Vettel was too close and got caught; then he tried to turn the table by blaming Hamilton. He should have kept his distances, and not be so foolish. The rest was just pantomime: overtaking the leading car under SF and banging wheels. Not very professional in my book. Hamilton did everything the leader is supposed to do behind the safety car. There was absolutely nothing erratic in his driving. But, he is Hamilton after all, so fair game for the critics, I suppose.
Perhaps, but I would think brake testing would trump following too closely in the hierarchy of infractions. And with the safety car lights still on there would be no reason for Hamilton to increase the gap beyond where it was.
+1 That's assault. And he refuses to admit it even happened. He had the same contorted facial expression when he took out Weber.
I don't disagree with the decision to penalize Vettel for his driving behavior. However, Elton should get at least the same penalty as well.
Well, I can watch, and watch again that clip, and it doesn't show Hamilton braking. All I can see (badly in this footage) is Vettel slightly bumping into him, and then take retaliation.
