Wow there is just so much wrong in this I don't know where to start. That's some strong koolaid they're serving you!!!
Just came back from a reveal event for the 720s. It's a great looking car. I just don't see the 150k premium over a 570. If I was to get a mclaren, I'd look at the 570 long and hard over 720. The eye sockets aren't as bad in person but still not great looking. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have a video of the sound. I can't upload it here. However- the audiophiles on this forum that bash the 488 are going to have a field day with the 720. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
All I know is that I had a great two hour drive this morning in my 488 GTB and the loud roar and growl of that amazing engine had my chest vibrating. To say it doesn't sound incredible is baffling.
488 is better looking, sounds better, arguable more desirable (more people look in awe at the prancing horse than the Mclaren). Mclaren is no doubt quicker, interior is cooler, doors are cooler. I'd probably take the 488 but they're neck and neck to me.
No way 488 is better looking. It's a face lift on a tired car that's worse than the original. I'll take 720s any day. More desirable in some people's mind, Ferrari does great marketing. I know a lot of drivers that have both and prefer Macs. Just sayin.
Lol a mac against a Ferrari, give me a break. Another desperate mac lover trying to convince himself that he likes mac better. Really.
Hey I am not the one preaching who's is better looking, that was your post. I was just responding to it. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Maybe you like old chicks with too much botox, that's ok! There's something for everybody!
But your profile says mac on order.... I am not desperate just an observation and comment to your earlier post(s) Enjoy your mac, I will enjoy my baby as well, and yes it's a personal preference.
Here is the issue I see with the 720. I don't know that its worth the delta in price over the 570. Ive shared my story before as I purchased the 488. I was specifically between the 488 and 650s. I drove them both back to back. Did not like the 650 as it just didnt move me. Sounds cliche but no soul at all. Thats not to say its a terrible car- its a fantastic car. I mean anything in this price range is fantastic so these comparisons are a bit silly but for me, debating whether to spend 225k or so on a Mclaren or a 100k more on a 488- it wasnt a question- I chose the 488 despite the extra dollars. After the purchase, Mac is on the radar for a potential add on in the garage and Im waiting for the 720 to come out and see what that will be like. It comes out - I see photos, I don't really care for the photos. The eye sockets in the pictures are just horrible. Today I see it in person and frankly it looks much better in real life but still- the eye sockets dont quite do it for me. Regardless, I haven't driven it but sat in it, played around with it- good cozy car in terms of fit and finish- very snug inside - I say that in a good way - in that the cockpit hugs you and cradles you. But after looking, sitting, evaluating, listening to the car engine, putting it all together, I come to the conclusion- the 720 is a brilliant car. Its fast, looks exotic but I have to be honest, it doesnt make me want to sell my 488. and frankly- I dont quite see the 150k in s value over the 570. I think Mclaren screwed up here. They made their entry level car so good that to consider the 720, you have to have piss away money. I do well but I dont own 20 ferraris so I cant justify the price delta between the 720 and 570. 150 matters and I just dont see it. Now this may sound a bit strange in that I did pay an extra 100 to get into a 488 over a 650 so no doubt many will find the price more than jusitifiable. But not for me. Not at this this. Having said this, Ill look more closely at this car in the future. Let the price come down a bit- I have confidence that it will- and then maybe i can justify buying one. 720 is a great performance car, but right now, owning a 488- I more than happy with that car and what I saw today at the 720 unveiling just didn't make me want to go out and get rid of my Ferrari and jump into a mac.
Can't imagine 4 macs and 8 Ferrari's. But good for you! I am just a poor chap with only one Ferrari so I do enjoy tremadously when I get behind the wheel. Still puts a smile on my face. I did drive a mac, but it did not do what a Ferrari does for me. I also have a fiat😉
This post completely resonates with me. I have respect for McLaren and would still consider owning one, yet each new car just doesn't ring my bell enough. I could have had LT, LT spider etc. and passed. Now with 720, it looks much better than I feared after the initial spy shots and some of the tech is clever. But I just don't want one. There are certain Mac lovers who always seem to have a hard time thinking that those who don't think like them can have a logical and sound reason. "You must be stupid, or you just don't know...Mac is more advanced, faster, nicer, better..." Whereas Ferrari lovers tend to accept there is another game in town and say "ok, that's good, I'm sticking with Ferrari though". It's not wrong to love either brand. But to suggest each new Mac is ahead of Ferrari technologically is inaccurate and somewhat irrelevant in my view - you haven't seen enough of Ferrari if you think that. I heard Simon Sinek say something recently. He said that he was invited to speak at the Microsoft conference and then the Apple conference. Microsoft were all about "we're going to nail Apple, our new gadget is measurably better than the iPhone in every area" (sound familiar). And they gave him one as a gift. Apple on the other hand weren't focused on Microsoft at all. "Here's how we're going to help take education to a new level for the world..." was their total focus. Riding away from the venue with the Apple CEO he showed him the gift Microsoft gave him and told him that they think it is more advanced than the iPhone. "Yes, it could be" came the unconcerned response. Products overlap in every industry, but the best companies have that long-term singularity of purpose - they know what they are about and why that is a good thing, and everyone working with and for them knows it too. McLaren and Ferrari are about different things at the moment. That's not a criticism of either brand, just a reason why it is not invalid to love either. And Ferrari are definitely building confident products at the moment, the sort that come from a real understanding of what they are all about - not always the fastest, but confident, and brilliant.
Having come out of a 650S losing @#$%^&*( loads of $s has left a very bad taste in my mouth with respect to the Mac. That aside I saw both the 720S and Huracan Performante (HP) in Geneva and went with the HP. Something about its design simplicity and NA engine as well as the very clever aero tech made it far more appealing than the Mac. Would I get into a 720S when it depreciates like the 650S (which it will as McLaren have no product strategy other than to crank out more variants) - probably not.
I think the Performante is going to be amazing ! The 488 is a great car and I too have considered a 720s. I'm waiting to test drive one. Also the Mclaren market is extremely unpredictable and volatile (for those who care). I've had all kinds of cars and love many brands but in the end I'm still a Ferrari guy.
