We know what prompted this further investigation: https://goo.gl/images/1mhjJB https://goo.gl/images/aVqRpW
Absolutely. Saward and that tubby loser Ted Krapitz should retire. Toto Wolf shut Ted down in the post race interview and it was brilliant. Ted is like a poor version of the National Enquirer for F1.
+1 they should review Sainz' crash in Montreal. That was dangerous and negligent etc etc etc. Where do you draw the line and let the system work. The FIA can review anything at anytime and appears to not review very many events at all. A few much worse than Vettels anger at the wheel at slow speed. Oh well! Seb was warned last year after Mexico GP outburst.....
Yes it was a stupid thing to do but they were hardly moving and there was no danger or damage. There is nothing to suggest he would do this sort of thing at speed +1
All threads like this tell me is that elton and his fanboys are terrified of a real driver like vettel in a nearly okay car, because vettel can actually drag the car to the front and beat elton even when elton has the best car. Elton's team don't want to slow bottles down for him, and elton himself can't pass the ferrari on track, so he is clearly relying on his corrupt friends in the FIA to try to help, just like when Schumacher was banned back in the 90's to help Damon hill
JB gets it right - Jenson Button says F1 should move on from Vettel controversy - F1 - Autosport Motor racing's governing body announced on Wednesday night that it will investigate whether further action is required against Vettel for his clash with Lewis Hamilton in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix behind the safety car. The FIA wants to work out whether the 10-second stop-go penalty that Vettel was handed was harsh enough, especially considering the German was still able to finish ahead of his rival and extend his championship lead. But while the FIA is pushing on with its investigation plans, with a hearing set for Monday, Button does not see any grounds for further action. In a tweet he posted on Thursday, he said that what Vettel did was 'silly' but with the Ferrari driver having been punished F1 should move on. "Azerbaijan GP was a pleasure to watch," he said. "Why? Because adrenaline & emotions were high. "What Vettel did was silly but he's been punished. Move on." In a reply to F1 commentator Martin Brundle regarding the FIA potentially over-ruling its own stewards, and calling for F1 to have "real warriors", Button said he agreed, and that drivers who forced others off track in the heat of competition would not get as big a penalty as Vettel got in Baku. The FIA will announce the outcome of its investigation in to the causes of the Baku incident prior to the Austrian Grand Prix, which takes place next weekend.
I think I might have started one of these threads. At the time I did not notice one. Apologies to all if that was so. Anyway... Another excuse to bash Ferrari ownere too, as if I needed that anymore Spot on. It was a stupid heat of the moment thing Vettel did (the swerve) but he was penalised and that should be it done and dusted. 10 second penalty and points on his 'super' license. Move on, nothing to see here.
Note, Button was Hamilton's teammate and Hamilton played the same tricks on restarts to Nico last few years.
"The FIA confirmed that on Monday, July 3, it will "further examine the causes of the (Hamilton) incident in order to evaluate whether further action is necessary". The outcome will then be announced before next weekend's Austrian grand prix, F1's governing body added. Monday, July 3 is also the Ferrari driver's 30th birthday." I hope the outcome will not spoil Seb's Birthday.
They would not call the meeting unless they are seriously considering further action. Ok Vettel received, and served, a penalty. Fair enough. Post race the issue now moves to Vettel's subequent reaction. He has not shown one ounce of remorse for the incident,in fact he continues to deny he did anything wrong,in firstly running into the back of Lewis, then running into the side of him. So he is undermining the FIA,in effect saying that the stewards decisions are wrong. I think this is the problem now,if he had fessed up then perhaps that would be the end of it,at the moment the hole is just getting bigger. We can go on and on about Hamilton/Senna/Prost/Schumi from the last 3 decades etc etc.The FIA is investigating Vettel.
If we are going to investigate race incidents after a decision, punishment and execution has been concluded, wouldn't it also be necessary to look into the radio message Hamilton made to his team asking for Bottas to be slowed into Vettel to disrupt his race? Is that not "Bringing the sport into disrepute" How is it that a pilot can openly propose to his garage that his team mate interfere with another driver, to influence the outcome of the race, and no one sees this as an issue? How was Bottas meant to interfere with Vettel? Crash into him? Do a kamikaze dive down the inside to push him into a wall? (I do admit Bottas is now an expert in pushing a Ferrari into a Red Bull, but this wasn't possible at Baku). Is this not disgraceful behaviour too?
+1 You're in the enviable "pre-addiction" phase of F1, and still have free will. Many of us (me since 1974) have been following F1 a long time and no longer have control of our decision -making process. That's why we put up with season after season of nonsense from the FIA and Formula One, until, over the years, the sport has changed so significantly that I have to console myself by watching races from decades ago on youtube. I've been a ferrari fan since I can remember, but stopped attending Canada after the 2013 season, and will not attend a race again until the cars sound like F1 cars should sound. If the FIA disqualify Vettel and hand the WDC to LH, then they will have done something for me that I can't do for myself cure me of this irrational addiction. I will stop watching for good...
If the FIA disqualify Vettel and Hamilton wins the WC as a result, then no-one but Vettel will be to blame. Motor racing is too dangerous a sport to put up with drivers that can't control themselves.
All drivers disagree with the stewards almost every time they get a penalty, that´s not the problem. Also, although everybody must accept the stewards´decisions, not being allowed to publicy disagree with them would mean that Charlie Whiting and company could screw the sport even more than they´re already doing without any opposition. Hell, people at least need to have the right to moan.
Nope. You're right on all counts. Amazing that someone who hasn't been watching clues into everything wrong so quickly. One might actually begin to think the way the FIA is running the sport is egregious. Imagine that.
So where was the FIA when Hamilton intentionally ran Nico off the track multiple times 2014-2016? I guess if Hamilton cannot win the title on his own in a superior car, then he can request the FIA to help him out. This is starting to feel much like 1994 when Schumacher got a 2 race ban for passing Damon Hill under the warm up lap to keep the championship close. I think it is appropriate that Jensen Button, who outscored Lewis when they were teammates at McLaren, has said it it time to move on. It was an incredibly stupid move by Vettel, but this is getting ridiculous. Is this the pinnacle of motor racing or is it professional wrestling?
Oh please, really? Of course they won't miss me; just like they could care less about what we all think here. Its amazing how eventually all threads here descend to high school levels of discourse. Its like Godwin's Law...
Len S I hear where you are coming from , i think this is not just a Lewis v Vettel problem,it is now more of a Vettel v FIA issue. They want to show him who is actually running this sport. We have also heard Liberty saying that Baku was all good for viewing interest etc, which to some extent is of course true. The FIA will also want to leave them in no doubt who is actually running the sport, and calling the shots.
Exactly. Where were they when Elton Ham-Dashian and Massa kept clashing? ... Lie gate? When his was the only car craned back onto a flooding track? Etc Etc. We certainly know
