Honestly, to me it looked the same as in pictures. Proportions are good, of course, as it's an F12 base beneath. Actually, my problem with the 812 is the side profile sculpted for no reason. Until recently, Ferraris have always had sculpted profiles but there was a sense of purpose, which now I believe they've lost. Now it's sculpting for the sake of sculpting.

Ferrari has to address design and aero.

The top speed which the 812 can reach necessitates a shape which will cut through the air and create stability and efficiency too.

I don't know if that side vent is better than the F12 in terms of aero effect.
But I doubt it carries a significant aero penalty.

Now the other factor is aesthetics. For many this is what makes or breaks a Ferrari.
Some argue that visual beauty is more important than everything else. Just look at the threads filled with discussions about paint, leather, and trim. The TM program has become hugely popular.

Funny thing is that before Ferrari knew much about aero, they instinctively thought a beautiful shape would be fast.

I had asked my dealer who was also present to check with Ferrari on the exact color of the grey one driven (not the one on the display) and he confimed it is ferro met. Now I am confused ...

Seeing the nice natural appearing pictures taken by Garretto the 812 #2 does have the dark appearance typical of silverstone. Grigio Ferro is a lighter shade that sometimes takes on a brownish tone as seen in the second picture.

Thanks a lot, probably my dealer mixed up the two vars, the driven (#2) is silverstone and the displayed ferro, then it would fit with most comments.

Sorry but the one in display is not Ferro either. There wasn't any Ferro 812s in Hockenheim.

I've already placed my order for an 812, coming-out of a McLaren 650S Spider and, prior to my 812 order, was excited about the 650's replacement UNTIL I saw its redesign. Not a fan at all! But it certainly holds its own in this video up against an 812. Enjoy!

The key guy I encountered at Hungaroring knew 2/5 of f&@k all about the colours and was astonished that I knew all the colours without needing to check....lol....

Haha! Reminds me of when was at a dealership asking questions about cars in stock, specs colours etc. The salesman asked me why I knew so much and if I was actually a mystery shopper. :)

Salesmen and enthusiasts are two completely different breeds, I noticed that in many différent fields.

The salesman wants to sell, the enthusiast wants to know.

Enthusiasts are not great salesmen. Their passion makes them forget the main goal : selling to make money.

....and Grey Enthusiasts are a completely different beast altogether. A salesmans worst nightmare!

You mean Kanya would love it... I don't find the 812's rear end ugly anymore than I do the fillopian tube F12 but yes I do find KK's atrociously unbearable.

The 812 looks great in a bright silver paint such as AN.

Any ideas for other 'special' silver paint?

Wait until you see it in real life. It looks pretty good as the pictures don't capture the depth of how the rear lines come together with the focal point being the spoiler and the way the rear lights tuck in under it. I was a skeptic until I saw it.

From the pics on the previous page, it looks really good in blue.

From this angle it looks like a cleaner version of the f12: https://www.instagram.com/p/BWGbdjBDI_a/?tagged=812superfast

Can't say I am a fan of the carbon rear and side skirt: https://www.instagram.com/p/BWHNxhmhnbx/?tagged=f12tdf&hl=en Looks too track/less gt.

I really thought and hoped that the design would grow on me - no luck.

Imagine a Liberty Walk (or similar) F12 - it wouldn't look far from this. Now imagine the comments...

+1 saw it in the flesh for the first time on a Lusso and it looked great, more like a darker platinum silver.
