he screws up everything he puts his hands on in regards to the F1 team.
Another one bites the dust. He will take all of Ferrari's secrets to another team.

You usually find a low-end flunkie to 'take one for the team'.

I thought the same thing also....

Presumably no answer on making the engine as good as Merc's in the near future then, so he got the sack...

It seems Marchionne wants him to work on a new FCA project. Maybe with this last update coming at Silverstone his work at the scuderia was completed.

Marchionne quoted here as saying it's part of normal rotation of staff through F1 team. Sassi came from the road car division and he's going back.

Marchionne also mentions that although Alonso has shown some interest in returning to Ferrari, Ferrari are not interested,

    Marchionne confirms Sassi's F1 exit

Sergio Marchionne has confirmed that Ferrari engine boss Lorenzo Sassi has left the F1 team.

We reported at the weekend that the respected designer was either ousted by team president Marchionne, or called up to work at the Ferrari parent Fiat Chrysler.

Marchionne indicated to La Gazzetta dello Sport that the latter is true.

"Sassi is continuing the development of his career. We did it with Cardile as well," he said.

Indeed, Enrico Cardile made the switch in the opposite direction, moving from Ferrari's GT programme to head the F1 aero division.
