Hi- One of our fellow FChatters is selling new fusebox boards that are supposed to be thicker and more durable. Also, the previous powner told me he replaced my 1984 400i's original board with one from a 412. Is the 412 actually more durable than the 400i? Finally, will the beefier more durable board help with things like hot-start issues? I know there are a variety of threads on hot-starting on here, and a number of them have had successful resolution by by-passing the relays on the circuit board because it isn't capable of transmitting necessary amperage to pumps. Like many others on here, my car starts immediately when cold in an instant. When hot, it cranks longer, cranks slower (and when it gets really slow, I here what sounds like a relay clicking coming from the right rear corner of the car). Helps a bit if I press throttle down slightly. Would appreciate any first-hand feedback on the above. Thanks, Jason
I don't have experience with that particular supplier in Belgium but I did buy a re-manufactured board from Arizona for my 400i that cured all electrical glitches in the system, particularly in the fuel pump sections. The original boards are somewhat thin and subject to vibration issues that eventually loosen up the solder joints. Those loose joints create heat and ultimately scorching of the areas nearby and will lead to failure of those connections. Therefore the selling points of that board all seem to address the main issues with the OEM boards. At an indicated price of Euros 650, that seems very reasonable to me since, IIRC, I paid about $1,250 for my board.
Hi, Jason, There are several wires you can connect outside that board. They are entering the fuseboard and are doing nothing inside, they are just connected. So to avoid more heat inside and having less risk on broken connection, I advise to connect those wires with isolated female and male connectors, just outside your fuseboard. Of al fuseboards I make those OEM boards have this all....yes strange but dont ask me why the CAVIS engineers did this. Probably only for filling up the empty spaces ! Guido
