Max should talk to the press. Its fan engagement and he is being paid for this as well. I did some reading about Richard Petty and he once told his son - When your job ends, another man's begins(the press) so you need to keep that in mind and speak to them.

To his credit he normally does, and engages well with them (even during low points).

I think due to the sheer disappointment he just couldn't be bothered. Happened to the best of them.

If it was every single weekend when things didn't go his way then he'd be a little *****.

Well, as the driver with clearly the least laps of the complete field, but no retirements by his own fault, he should be disappointed.
Would you believe a driver that said, "hey, that's racing, better luck next time!"?

Probably for the greater good that Max didn't offer a Renault critique straight after the race. $25K is a lot cheaper than the negative publicity that Renault would get. Social Media is sticky and hangs around.

Jos Verstappen slams Red Bull boss Horner

A growing rift has emerged between the Verstappen camp and Red Bull.

Amid Max Verstappen's troubling run of reliability, the 19-year-old left the Baku circuit without speaking to the media last Sunday and could subsequently face a EUR 25,000 penalty.

It came amid rumours of interest from Ferrari, who are yet to sign either of its current drivers for 2018, despite Red Bull's insistence that Verstappen is firmly under contract.

One suggestion is that Verstappen is trying to deliberately breach his contract.

Adding fuel to that theory is Verstappen's fiery father and co-manager Jos.

On Twitter, a F1 reporter linked to a story that quoted Red Bull boss Christian Horner as saying Verstappen's current frustration is "through no fault of the team or the effort the team is putting in".

    Jos replied: "Bullsh*t".

If I'd had a Ferrari company car when I was 18, I'd have been knee deep in girls and have had no time for racing, lucky little sod. He'll have to pop his spots though!

Jos Verstappen says son happy at Red Bull

Max Verstappen's father has denied the Red Bull driver is looking for a way out of his contract.

Amid rumours his clearly-frustrated 19-year-old son would like to accept a Ferrari offer for 2018, former F1 driver Jos last week said on Twitter that an explanation by Red Bull team boss Christian Horner was "bullsh*t".

Horner had said Verstappen's troubles with reliability were "through no fault of the team or the effort the team is putting in".

When a story about Jos' foul-mouthed response was written, the former Benetton and Minardi driver told the reporter: "Don't make your own stories. We are happy at Red Bull."

Indeed, Red Bull official Dr Helmut Marko told Kronen Zeitung newspaper that he is proud of the team's recovery after a difficult start to the season.

"As far as the chassis is concerned, we are probably the strongest team," he said.

"But we still have to work on reliability and also the engine.

"We have had six failures this season, and I'm especially sorry for Max Verstappen," Marko added.

This is interesting as I just watched the press conference last night and Max, sitting next to Carlos, says "I'm pretty sure soon we are both going to be racing in competitive cars....together....I don't know which team but we will be." *see 25:20

I don't see it happening though.

Kimi needs to go. This would be a strong move for Ferrari.

Some say that, after 3 years, Vettel is frustrated by the lack of result at Ferrari, and could leave.

Others say the Kimi is past his best, and could be replaced

So you have 2 drivers who could potentially leave the Scuderia.

I think if Vettel wants to go, they will keep Kimi, for continuity sake.

If someone like Verstappen wants to join, Kimi is on his way out.

Verstappen's ''achilles heel'' has been qualifying, sort of. He's fixed that this year so far...been very quick. Race pace no question, either. I love Vettel, but Verstappen is the one to have no matter what.

I think that could replicate a Hamilton-Rosberg situation.

    Good luck with that !

We have seen that Vettel doesn't react very well to challenge from his team mates; Webber or Ricciardo, for example.

I believe Verstappen now feels he must be Number One somehow, and receive all the attention from a team. Short of that, he will be unhappy.

He doesn't get that at Red Bull, and he wouldn't obtain it at Ferrari teamed with Vettel.

Verstappen got 4 DNF's out of the last 6 races due to mechanical problems and an unfavourable pit strategy in another.

If Verstappen had a bit more luck this season he'd completely outperform Ricciardo.
