this is the new rolling standing start invented by bottas and FIA as long as dont move much in a "standing start" its gonna be alright
It doesn't really matter if Bottas jumped the start: it didn't make a difference anyway. He was very lucky though
It may not have made a difference in the outcome of this race however it does to the understanding of the rules of the sport. Can you be in motion before the lights are out?
I'm not dissing Bottas's driving but actually it might have made a difference if the race stewards did their jobs properly. If Bottas's mistake had caused a restart, and Vettel managed to get ahead at the restart, it would have been a completely different race. As it stands, Vettel is unfairly and unjustly being questioned by race officials, the media and fans... and drivers getting away with a rolling start is now in the offing.
Why do people think Bottas jumped the start. It doesn't make sense. The data shows he reacted in 0.201 seconds. Vettel was nearly .2 slower to react. It's no more complicated than that. Basically, as close to a perfect start as it is humanly possible to achieve. Bottas should be congratulated on that. Why is YouTube suddenly being suggested as a superior data source to the actual sensors in the track? Ferrari once again showed that the car is plenty fast enough in race conditions to win this championship. Vettels lead extends yet again. He's doing everything he needs to do. Great to have a 3 way battle for the title!
Not a very interesting race. Not much drama. Vettel made it interesting at the end but it the first 70 laps were just "meh". I think Kyvat needs to be kicked out of GP racing. He's out of control. It's amazing how people tell us how great Stroll is doing because he's "adequate". When I first saw the start, I thought Bottas jumped. But I don't believe he did. I don't think it would have mattered much as Vettel had a hiccup anyway. Max's start was a DISASTER which is what set him up for the accident.
Hamilton sounded depressed. Yesterday he acted like a little boy. The guy is going through some issues.
Why would a jump start mean a restart? A drive through is normal for that, definitely not a restart, never.
My question is simple. Can a car be in any motion at all before the lights are out? Bottas car was in a rocking motion.
Well, the first couple of corners and the last 5 laps or so were exciting. Other than that, it was a little uneventful. All the best, Andrew.
Yes I don't blame Max on that start at all. Clearly a mechanical problem. Kvyat has 7 points on his license now. How many before he loses it?
I think Hamilton sees the writing on the wall. Bottas is Merc's future, he is their past. He looks depressed.
I wonder if he gets points at all? Clearly a bone headed move. I've defended him plenty here but writing is on the wall for his career
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9hUuOV-CyA&feature=youtu.be it was a 10sec penalty for sure....we were robbed today...but thats ok, coz Botles trashed elton..again
Don´t agree, i remenber him in testist saying Merc was clearly far ahead...something that was obviously wrong for those who realy understand something about f.1
+1 YouTube now LOL?? Ok LOL. He didnt get penalized. He didnt jump the start. He simply had an amazing start. I guess the FIA has zero business now monitoring a race. Fan cams are better I guess LOL They have the data from the car. Youtube?? No lol....
Bottas escaped jump start penalty thanks to FIA tolerances Valtteri Bottas was cleared of jumping the start at the Austrian Grand Prix because any movement his car made before the lights went out was within tolerance limits allowed by the FIA, it has emerged. The FIA has explained, however, that some movement before the lights go out is allowed because of the need occasionally for drivers to make adjustments to their clutch in those crucial moments before the start. https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/bottas-start-penalty-austria-fia-928763/
