To those saying"ferrari needs this because it will make them more money"A) they are doing quite well now wB) why not delve into a slightly lower market and resurrect the Dino nameplate for maybe a mi engined M3/cayman competitor? Make them v6 TT,sell thousands of them, keep the ethos and legacy alive. I am ok with Porsche making suv's,the company has quite a few examples of coming up with weird cars that really were a risk. Ferrari always had the same formula. Big motor in the front or middle with the rear wheels being driven(save for the FF and gtc4). Ferrari always did the same thing for years and that why people love them. Porsche also took bigger risks with cars and really never could find a niche outside of the 911 until the cayenne and such. Porsche was always trying to be a "premium brand". Ferrari was always trying to be ferrari,if that makes any sense.
Enzo didn't care about enthusiasts period. He viewed them more as necessary evils to achieve the only thing that really mattered to him. "Racing and Winning!"
From what I have read, Enzo only sold cars to the public to finance the racing. He preferred to have people beg to drive his cars over people who offered him money. Suppsedly, again according to what I read, he was so mad when he heard 0460AM, a 375 MM PF Spider, was going to a woman he went out of his way to not send her what she had requested. That's why it is Yelow with a green interior, instead of a red exterior. He turned down a lot of money from Ford, money wasn't everything to him. While under his leadership they produced some elegant 2+2 grand tourers, I don't think he would have ever signed off on an SUV/CUV or whatever you call them. And I don't think he would today. F Porsche, f their SUV's and their 4-doors. They even put diesels in them. I almost fell over when I saw one on the street and it said diesel on the side. Back to Ferrari, please stick to making sports and GT CARS. Stop with the cup holders, the GPS, the bluetooth, the wifi, the cameras and all of the other extra junk. Need to milk more out of each car just raise the base price. STOP offering the full auto setting on the F1 transmission. They will still sell every car they produce.
I really don't mind Ferrari making a crossover/SUV. The thing that bothers me is that it will supposedly replace the 2+2's. Well, I'm getting an FF this fall, so that should be good for five years or so, then I can get a Lusso. That should last me until I'm seventy. But after that, if I'm still healthy and happy, I won't know what to do. Not interested in a Ferrari crossover at this point, but I detested the FF when it came out too. This rendering looks pretty good, actually. Cheers, George Image Unavailable, Please Login
Should make a separate brand. Ferrari sells it's mystique. A SUV (unless it's a Hummer) has little of it. Lambo could pull it off because outlandishness is the order of the day. And that's why I tend to love them better.
A Porsche is just a volume sports car maker that makes the odd super car, it isn't a supercar builder period. Cayennes are acceptable from Porsche because they make a massive volume of cars, and they appeal to the same markets as Mercedes and BMW for all but their highest priced sports cars. Ferrari and lamborghini play in a different pricing sphere 100% of the time, hence a ferrari SUV is an extravagant vehicle that ferrari shouldn't need to build. Most ferrari owners are happy to buy range rovers or bentaygas, or even cayennes to scratch the daily drive itch if they need size and four wheel drive
I think if this SUV goes into production it will be the most sold Ferrari. Therefore it is going to exceed easily the limit of 10000 units per year which requires to adapt to European regulations. Then it would only be justified if the objective of the company is to maximize earnings by producing more units. In that case it is expected that in addition to the SUV, finally produce the Dino and maybe a 4 doors car too.
There you are in your 488 thinking you are cool in your exotic car, model in the passenger seat at a traffic light. Mrs rich soccer mom pulls up to you in her Ferrari SUV 4 screaming brats in her seats ice cream all over there faces and windows. Kinda wrecks the special cool image Enzo wanted for Ferrari. Good decision Ferrari, The new Ferrari minivan lol.
They've done it before. Something this badass would be fine, but Ferrari's planing a soccer mom mobile. To replace the Lusso. It's madness. My only hope it that they'll only replace the V8 Lusso, and then design a new 2+2. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Have you forgotten back when the Cayenne was first announced and the faux outrage was palpable? Same as this now. Personally, I don't care if Ferrari builds an SUV, just as long as their supercars remain ahead of the curve, the L cars on the roads and the M/RB cars on the tracks.
A) I love when people tell others that they have enough money. Maybe your definition of 'quite well' is different than mine. I think Ferrari deserves even more money B) Maybe you havent seen the threads but when its been brought up they should make a $100k Cayman fighter plenty of people hate the idea as they say it kills the brand making something so down market. What that shows is one persons 'great idea' is anothers 'horrible idea'
I've loved Porsche since the mid 1980's and have purchased a couple of them over the years. My love for Porsche died in 2003. And yes,it was because of the Porsche SUV. I've never owned a Ferrari. But if I could afford one and Ferrari built a SUV... Your're damn strait I would never buy a new one. Joe
They are making more money than ever,I'm not saying to not make more money,I'm saying the brand ethos is not worth more money. I don't own the company though and it is a business,so i see your point there. The Dino was always a down market offering, wasn't it? I agree that making a Ferrari that far down would be bad.
Well when it (the Rambo Lambo) debuted, it was not meant for consumers. LM, standing for Lamborghini Militaria, is one helluva hint for its purpose. The only reasonable (non-Grizzly Adams) SUV for consumers on the market in 1977 were the Jeep Wagoneer and Bronco but the SUV craze kicked off with the Cherokee in the late 80's. The Cheetah/LM001-3s were never meant for the pilates crowd. It'll be a Maser in a retro 456 party dress, built by them too with Dodge/Chrysler parts like switches and knobs to appear. Follwed a metric ****load of lemon law claims when they can't get it back for a month at a Ferrari service center. It's like how my dad resents bringing his Nismo 370z to sit in the service area with dilapidated Sentra owners. Bentley can do it because they are underpinned by the reliable Audi Q7 made in large numbers already. That means Lambo can do it too, but expect a crazy Qx SAV that is the same car anyway, the way the Gallardo begat the R8. Audi goes both ways lol
The way I see it they'll just add bigger wheels, tyres and wheel arches to the lusso, a la audi allroad
You are talking about something like that: https://static.motor.es/fotos-noticias/2017/07/min652x435/ferrari-f16x-suv-2021-201737621_4.jpg
You cannot even include the lambo in this discussion. The truck arrived as a potential military contract with the Saudi government. Lambo put a ton of money into development and tooling. The rug was pulled, so they continued with production and added the luxury interior. They had to recoup costs. That's the story as I remember it. Lambo never set out to produce and SUV. They were contacted to do so. A bit different then Ferrari. Porsche, or Bentley.
