So my otherwise great running car has an annoying new issue. When starting from a full stop, and with the wheel turned slightly in one direction, there is a slight shudder (in the front end?) for a second or two. This is new.

Everything else is great. The steering and suspension are fine at full speed, whether going straight or turning corners. There is no other sign of anything wrong. The shudder is only present from a complete stop AND with a slight turn of the wheel.

I looked for anything obvious, such as a badly warn bushing or something loose or damaged that may be rubbing on the front end when the wheels are turned. The front wheel bearings seem ok.

The only work done to the car recently was new CV boots on the rear axles. I did not notice any shudder the first several times driving the car with the new boots, so I assume (????) this new problem is not related to changing the boots.

    Has anyone experienced this before?

Check that the rotors aren't warped, as well.

Unlikely to be warped rotors as you would feel a pulsing in the brake pedal any time you applied the brakes. Could be chatter in the limited slip clutches. Have you changed the gear box fluid lately? Might need to add some posi-quiet.

Is it the steering wheel shuddering (rapid back/forth turning motions), or the entire car?

You mentioned you think it might be in the front, but wondering how it actually feels and manifests itself in the (overall) car's behavior.

Be careful John! The clutch patrol will admonish you for suggesting adding anything to the transmission...and whatever you do, don't buy it at Autozone! Hehehe :)

It is barely (if at all) noticeable in the steering wheel (not like the steering wheel vibrates or fights me). It feels like the front wheels are rolling over some shallow bumps in the road (enough to notice, but not enough the shake the wheel or the car). Hard to describe. I suppose it is possible to be something going on in the rear end, but just doesn't "feel" like it.

Sorry to be vaugue...I drive it tomorrow and see if I can come up with more details.

    Flat spotted tire?
    Failing tie rod?
Something in the wheel well (stick or wire).

Well, when serviced by the dealer they always added 8 oz of posi-quiet to the transaxil. I continued to do the same. It's worked ok for the last 32 years. But I've always be a rebel. :)

What is the logic behind the gearbox oil?
