Did they really upgrade the engine? How come we can't see it? I remembered the Italian newspaper said about 50HP increased! what a joke :( I really think this is Ferrari's limit, they don't have the best engineers and mechanics in their team like Mercedes have, so no matter how hard they've tried they just can't make it right, this is the level where the team belongs ;(

With a bit of luck, Bottas and Hamilton will start having to share race wins, and Seb will be able to sneak in and take the WDC from the pair of them - Just as happened with Kimi and the McLaren drivers in 2007!

I started this race hoping Hamilton's day would be ruined, but it turns out My day has been completely ruined instead.

However, in the style of My hero Gilles Villeneuve, I'm not ready to simply give up just yet because the wheels fallen off the wagon! - Let's drag it on and see what we can do! ;)

50!? Not a chance they'd be class of the field by miles.

They did do an engine upgrade. Kimi wasn't far back around 12 seconds before his tire went.

Long wheel base does suit the Merc here, high speed long corners mostly.

"Tradition" and "Glory" mean jack squat in any given new year in F1. The once glorious McLaren-Honda are proof of that. Ferrari has nowhere near the resources of Mercedes AG. We've seen proof positive than NO amount of money can guarantee F1 success (Toyota, Honda.......sometimes Ferrari  ), but Mercedes combines massive wealth with a massive commitment to multiple forms of motorsport over many years.

It's hard to stop Germans once they get going at something. They were prematurely cutoff from dominating the 70s at Le Mans with the 917s, did in fact dominate the 80s with the 956/962, then Audi dominated for ~13 years and now Porsche again. And now F1.. All I can say is that I'm glad Seb had his run at Red Bull. Otherwise, Queen Elton might be creeping up on Schumi's 7 WDCs by now...

I sure wish Mercedes had been this strong when Schumi was there. He would have had at least 8 titles...

Credit when credit is due: Hamilton did an excellent job this afternoon.
That's undeniable; just too bad some people cannot see it.
Pole position, leading all the laps, lap record and a win.
He completely vindicated himself and proved the critics wrong.
By the look of it, he hasn't lost his fans support as well.
Now just one point behind, this championship if for Hamilton to take.
The Mercedes are still ahead in development.

Ferrari? A valiant effort by Kimi and Vettel, but they were never able to fight for the lead anyway, and by sheer coincidence (?) both had tyre failures in the last laps. I think there needs to be a post-mortem at the Scuderia to find out what went wrong with the tyres. It could be that the suspension set up works the edge of the tyres too hard, to the point where they delaminate.

I'm counting on Bottas to limit Elton at this point.

I thought BOTH Ferraris would be out of the points today...but P3 and P7 aren't bad considering. Still, if Ferrari doesn't respond to this level of pace in Hungary, there are ominous clouds on the horizon, indeed....

Even if I don't like LH (at all), you are completely right, Sir. LH and MB are miles ahead.

I don't think the tire problems were sheer coincidence - and that for a car that was supposed to be "good on its tires". Ferrari is way back in the development race (again).

I don't think anyone questions Elton's abilities at this point. It's just that he is an insufferable diva who is fawned over incessantly by the media, which many find tiresome....

Who questioned that? But again: he did nothing Seb did not do in his RB years but for some reason it is rated completely different...
Question is what would have been if he did not win? Looking at all the "crowd surfing" and stuff after the race Lewis seemed to have the impression he had to make good with the fans after London.
This is the far more important part of the story as proven by Bottas coming second from ninth position. Even without Kimis misfortune he would have been on the podium just showing how strong the Mercedes is.

    You're drawing conclusions.

Same as the Toil's here used to do: Before anyone has even said anything you're already jumping to conclusions saying people aren't seeing it. Congratulations.

And don't forget the Thirties and the Fifties.

I can only recommend Chris Nixon's book "Racing the Silver Arrows" about the domination of the German Silberpfeile in the Thirties (Auto-Union and Mercedes). They just trounced the opposition every time.

Yes, I need to buy that one, and learn more about that era in general. Those were majestic beasts! No displacement limits back then.

I don't mind them in other sports, but let's have Maranello back at the top of F1 for a while plesse!

  19. Skating on very thin ice here, don't you think??? ;) :)

edit: I see I'm already late to the party. It's already breaking.... :)

The Merc. always does well in free air..

Ham´s trying a bit too hard.

  22. As stated before, I'm not anti/for anyone regarding their personalities; 'just don't care. However, he doesn't hold a candle to Fangio in that area. ;)

Well, whatever he does, people criticise him.

Everything he does is not enough for some, and too much for others ...
