What? The 'cab-forward' Chryslers from the '90s aren't memorable enough?

I don't think Jason ever worked on those.........
Since he was born in 1974 he would have been kinda young ;)
OP, just google Jason's name and read his Wikipedia bio
    Saab, Bertone, Pininfarina, Ford

IM not saying this as an excuse... but if I remember it correctly they are sharing this with Nissan.

So... the basis of it is Nissan. That bed and tailgate is so very not mercedes. The cab I could probably forgive... the nose is... ughh... a'ight I guess... but still I agree they phoned it in.

Or they are so budget constrained and they don't believe in the market that that was as much as they were willing to risk.

I can tell you right now... I don't think its going to be a seller. Ford GMC and Dodge do it too well with too much capability... and a platinum model or laramie dodge... the insides are damn near as nice or nicer than many offerings from Mercedes and BMW etc... The quality of materials in the high end trucks are pretty amazing. The other thing people wont put up with in this segment is german reliability or lack there of... also brakes that need replacing every 25k miles... they will get destroyed in the segment for crap like that

You're right, sharing with Nissan explains a lot, but it's no excuse for choosing the wrong platform/body. Sales will be the deciding factor. Are there enough people that need the Mercedes Star to feel comfortable with a pick up? We'll see.

They probably know it would be a 'tough sell' in the USA

I would like to respectfully disagree... I don't think the problem is in 'pushing further'; rather I think today's designs just have too much embellishment. I count 15 different planes/ textures/treatments just reading down from the top of the bonnet to the ground - my eyes get tired.

standard industry practice where many of the drawings are done after the car is done
I used to think that was cheating/fooling the public.......now I just accept it as common practice

Same thing happens in Architecture... amazing some of the stories (and accompanied 'sketches') that turn up to match some projects.

I've seen it happen so often, I've gotten used to it!
I'd think, man that early sketch looks just like the final product.......;)

They were practicing continuity. But is sure looks like a nuanced brick that got some wind tunnel time.

Maybe Ford will copy this as the next generation Continental instead of Bentley as this at least has more of the old 1962 Continental continuous fender line.

The Chief Designer is quoted as saying they worked on this for 6 years
That's not what I would equate with 'fast to market'

I like it... Im not in love with it... but I like it.

I could lose the refrigerator door handles being the size of a yugo though.

Also... someone post pic of the back lit metal sculpture thing-a-ma-doo... GORGEOUS. I love it.

At least the body panels would be easy to repair- no complex curves.
