Hi Does anyone know if this horse badge on passenger side dash is fitted by the factory on 79 euro GTB's? I was told it is not but meant to be there wanted to get a second opinion? It looks very factory. Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Certainly not from the factory, but if you're convinced it looks "of the period," some dealers added custom touches like that. I've seen it done on the center console.
Ok thanks all. The guy was right then. (I didn't argue with him luckily!) It looks so professionally fitted and is a genuine horse, so it will have to stay forever as it won't be removable! Best regards to all Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
+1! Honestly IMHO such things seriously drag down the interior appearance. Like John already said; it's so Fiero-ish. Best Martin
Not sure if a patch of vinyl stuck over where the badge was will look worse than having the actual badge there. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hi Alex, I'm almost sure Tommy meant recovering the whole cover. I did it, since some dumbass pre-owner drilled a hole for installing an alarm LED. Best Martin
What is it about previous owners that do odd things like this. Maybe it was his 10 year old son. Recovering the whole thing sounds scary. Not sure on that one! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You could just pull the fuse cover panel off and recover that bit... once you pull it off, you see it's not really a scary job. The rest of the dash - yeah, that takes commitment.
Not just previous owners but current buyers. There is a type of owner that wants every view of the car to be labelled so all onlookers are reminded what marque the car is. It's also why wing shields are popular and so much so they are now a factory item. Sigh.
Yes forgot that it's a small removable panel of course, I'll take it to an upholsterer. I lost some points at the FOC concours over that damn badge! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
BTW: Love that you have a vintage radio in there. Tres cool. Am searching for a particular 80's Alpine CD player myself, to replace the more modern deck currently in mine.
Thanks I was lucky the one previous owner didn't take that dealer supplied radio out. He did bolt on a second wing mirror which I had removed when it was painted. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
If that badge bothers you, just look for a spare fuse panel cover online. I see them from time to time, and you won't have the same issues with patina matching as with re-covering.
Yep, one on ebay right now for $200. Ferrari 308 Dash / Fuse Panel w/ "GTSi" Emblem Part# 60078607 | eBay Might be able to swap out the GTSi logo with the one from your cover, and keep the patina matching nicely.
Yes I was thinking the same but in 18 months of ebay searches looking for other bits, I've never seen one Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Damn. Well, you could probably find a 3"-4" Ferrari badge and stick it over the GTSi badge. Would probably work ok - might even look factory-original. Good point there. Well, you could get this LH drive cover off ebay, then find a car to match it...
Do places like Eurospares break apart cars? Surely there must be someone breaking one in the UK that's got one. Otherwise, I don't think recovering in fresh vinyl, as long as you find something reasonably matching, should be as hard as you think. When you pull the panel, you'll find that it's a simple two-sided fiberglass shroud with felt on one side and vinyl on the other. A fabric scissors and some glue should get the job done. It's an uncomplicated shape.
I had a similar thing on my car when I bought it. A previous owner had removed the GTSi badge and attached a chrome horse from the centre console right in the middle of the fuse panel cover. I had the same issue being RHD, no second hand ones available. It was one of the first things I returned to original after purchasing the car along with other delightful enhancements such as the large carbon fibre look Momo gear knob and Momo step plates. It's a very easy piece to recover, I took it down to my local trim supply shop and bought some black vinyl with matching grain , peel off the old vinyl, some 3M spray contact and your good to go. I doubt an upholsterer would charge much to do the whole job if you don't want to tackle it yourself Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
