Who gives a crap which car is faster in a straight line, which car do you enjoy more? Which car is the one you prefer? If straight line was a deciding factor, you could buy a gtr and mod it to demolish all these cars in a straight line and spend 1/3 the money.

It's also faster around the track :)

So if you prefer a faster car straight line and track the 675 or 720 is your choice. If you like the brand or aesthetics of the Ferrari than that is your choice. Everyone votes with their wallet and what is important to them.

Like the poster above said if you are torn just buy both :)

If you hang around these forums long enough then you'll start to think that the sentiments of the frequent posters actually represent the at large owners of these fines cars... I can tell you that isn't the case in the real world.

People/owners care about speed and so do the manufacturers.

Demolish is a strong word. It is a bit faster, but numbers don't lie; they are in the same league.

I personally don't race anybody, otherwise I would be on the track in a straight line racing a dragster. In everyday use it does not really matter. What matters is that Ferrari is much cooler than the MAC, but some MAC lovers have to convince themselves other wise.

Are you trying to convince yourself or others?

Most of the people commenting in this thread about Mclarens own Ferrari's and Mclarens along with other marquees.

I'm a Ferrari owner. On my 3rd F car. Never owned a Mac. The 12C didn't do it for me. The 650S was more interesting but still too bland in appearance. Performance piqued my interest. The 675LT performance really piqued my interest but the looks still lacking so never pulled the trigger after much back and forth.

The 720S came along and it's just a whole new thing. Stunning looks and blistering hypercar speeds both straight line and on track.

So I'm a current Ferrari owner and love my 458 Spider but when looking at whether to buy a 488 or 720S I can't see getting a 488 as much now. Maybe since I'm holding onto the 458 the prospect of something completely different and more radical in the garage is appealing. The 720S ticks the boxes for me though. Gorgeous lines. Beautiful interior. MSO customization if you want it. Faster than nearly everything on the road being built by the competition. Last it probably has the widest suspension range where you can get an almost soft sedan like ride on public roads and then a compliant ride on track (at least based on reviews - I have not test driven one but will this week or next).

Not so long ago, MP4 was also much faster than 458 in straight race. Then 650S was even much faster than MP4.
But Ferrari sold 458 way more than MP4 and 650S combined. So performance is not really the key feature here. Some more with Mclaren's current result in F1, it would be hard to sell performance.

McLaren have not enjoyed any sales bump due to F1. They're last championship was 2008 IIRC. The 12C came out in 2011. If (and appears to be a big IF at this point), McLaren F1 are able to be competitive again, that will only help sales. Their abysmal performance in F1 hasn't hurt sales but it's not helping either.

But let's not kid each other, neither of these cars are F1 cars and fortunately neither have much in common nowadays with their big brothers. An F1 car would be horrendous on a public road and wouldn't last 5,000 miles. Or in McLaren/Honda's case 50 miles. Fortunately the 720s isn't running a Honda engine. The new 4L is quite impressive, it's immediately noticeable whereas the 650s was not.

The Dodge Demon goes 0-60 in 2.3 seconds completely stock and with stock tires. It does it for like 80 grand.

Does that make me want one? Nope.

Off course not. You can't see the engine in the dodge. Why bother.

The comparison between the two from zeperfs makes for interesting reading. In case there is any thought of Ferrari juicing press cars, Horst997's vbox on his car gave exactly the same 100-200 time.

What's interesting is the 80-120 favours the Ferrari, but 80-180 favours the 720 by a greater margin. 720 power to weight better and price higher. Interesting that the torque and cc is just above Ferrari. Given that the 488's max torque was far higher than the 12C/650 this is clearly by design.

What's most interesting of all; who cares about which is faster - look at the insane speeds of both cars!! Just buy what you love and stop feeling the need to prove it to yourself by bashing everything else.

Thank you for proving my point. Voila': Under the hood of the Dodge Demon (something you can't do in most McLarens. Too bad really). In fact, I would argue that more people would think the Dodge Demon "is cooler" than the 720s.

The Dodge has 840 Hp compared to the wimpy 720 of the Mac. I guess no one will buy one now... it loses in the "horsepower" war. After all, HP is soooooooooooooo important.

Actually McLaren haven't won a Championship since 1998!!! Hamilton on the other hand won a Title driving a McLaren in 2008. :D

Well, so Dodge fantasises really and that's on barely road legal drag rear tyres, skinny fronts, on a strip covered in glue!!! Still, it can't match its claims even under these conditions:

My best launch of the day—2.6 seconds to 60, 6.1 to 100, 1/8th mile in 6.8—is done with Launch Control; my fastest quarter-mile, a 10.7-second run

Likewise, although I don't yet know my build month. I'm just as excited to take delivery of this car as I was with my Porsches, Ferrari and McLarens. Variety is the spice of life.

    Indeed.
Too much hate here for the 720 or anything non ferrari.
I just love cars, all cars.
I know the factory has already started building some customer cars.

Not to mention with only one seat/no radio. It's a 10.5 car when it's actually needed to be used as a reasonable means of transport.

It's hard to be compared to Ferrari and mac or dodge demon just does not do it. Most fchatters don't argue with its performance. As I said before going going the the extra 0.1 second faster from 0-60 is meaningless unless u race for living and will get a big trophy prize. Most of us enjoy it due to its branding, quality in product, performance and Ferrari experience.
I also agree that if you really want to go fast get a dodge demon, a whole lot cheaper, but again faster is not always better.
