Fully agree 1000000%, and most do, except Mike in Tennessee who is not going to...not sure he will want to be a guest of the North Korean state;-) How about it Mike? free room and board?!
Really? They've been almost completely absent in European market and yet these GT cars still command only 40% of what the equivalent Ferrari's do. The Indy and Ghibli never had them at all yet they don't bring the same money either save the Ghibli spider.
Hi Marc, Ok, in that case he may even have owned a house in Switzerland and brought the car back from Guatemala to Europe at some time. Maybe there is something in the documentation of the car about that. It certainly is a beautiful Khamsin, I like luci del bosco! Let's hope it sells in the USA and the new owner can enjoy it on great roads like Mulholland Drive. I've never driven there but saw it in a roadtest recently and I think a Khamsin would be a perfect car to enjoy that road.
Hi AMLC, Yes I will ask about 210 and the Bjarsch sticker. Both are very interesting cars in beautiful rare colors, Tabacco is even rarer and it is wonderful to see them in their original colors which they actualy always kept as far as I know. Best regards, Marc
Cleaning out my garage and I am about to scrap my original US Bumpers with all hardware and the front turn light binnacles. If anyone should want them, speak up now. Good condition. I just hate to toss them, but I am gonna. Doug in Ohio.
Might I suggest a large funeral pyre and a musical accompaniment of 'Je ne regrette rien' On a live stream just for Marc's benefit?? ((((-; Mark.
I am made of blue sky and golden light. And I will feel this way forever. Thanks for sharing the fantasy!
You're talking about the all rubber ones right? Here's what I suggest. Take some photos of them. Tops, bottoms, fronts, backs and ends. Post them on here and let's see if there are any takers. Perhaps MIE may want a very clean set? I think the Khamsin ones in particular are ugly as sin. Lamborghini had some real losers on the Countach and Espada as well. Personal opinion there ... If these were Bora bumpers I'd be in line as I'd like to have a set to experiment with.
LOL yes fire, when you burn something negative, is cathartic, cleansing!!! Hi Doug, hope you are well. MS PS: Bonhams confirmed to me that yes the owner of K 210 from Guatemala (or living in that country in any case) did have the car in Europe for a while which is when it was serviced in Switzerland at Bjaersch in Schlieren, suburb of Zurich.
Of course burning rubber will most likely land you in jail here for environmental violations ... How about turning them into a piece of modern artwork? I was in the Warhol museum two weeks ago so that may explain this bizarre suggestion ...
Yes I was going to say burning these things would look like there is an oil platform fire or a riot in Libya... Warhol probably inhaled smoke before his creations but not sure it was that type;-)
Well, they could be creatively re purposed but my need for them is over as my car is long gone. But freeing up space is my new occupation. I've spent half my life moving spares and the like around.
Hi- newby to the forum HELLO--Have Red Khamsin for over 20 years still have the US bumpers-- like em' cause I guess no one else does. Pulling out of storage redoing brakes- all original- Like those bumpers..lol Might be interested in another set....
Hello all, Not a big auction like the upcoming ones in Monterey but a friend mentioned to me that Coys has AM120US1058 in its Schloss Dyck auction August 5, that is Germany's own equivalent to Chantilly and Goodwood, though not yet as big according to my German contacts. 1979 Maserati Khamsin | Coys of Kensington 1058 is the one that received an Ostrich interior some years ago in the northeastern US by its then owner Kevin D, with a blacked out rear vertical window. Photos from about 11 years ago below. He then had to sell it in 2008 This unique interior has since been toned down. It spent some time in Italy, was bought by a Belgian in 2014 and now up for auction in Germany. I saw it at Lime Rock back then and I did like the look of the ostrich so it's disappointing that it was swapped out but ... when I sat in it I have to say that ostrich is uncomfortable. You can feel all those spots where the feathers attach. So I get that. Maybe changing just the seat facings would have been better or it might have looked odd? I love the ostrich on the cargo cover ...
Hi Bob, It was quite unique but not to everyone's taste and the dealer in Italy probably faced too many negative comments hence he had it redone. When I visited the Porsche factory in 1992 I saw an apple green 911 with Ostrich interior headed for..Teheran! Ostrich was used in some grand old pre war cars but is much rarer post war. Best regards, MS
I remember seeing this car at one of the MaserMiglias. To me the ostrich interior looked hideous and out of place on a K! Ivan
Hi Ivan, I would not kick out of bed ahem turn down a K with that interior if it were cheap enough but speaking of cosmetics What disturbs me visually is wire wheels on them such as on 1172 here, yet the car actually won awards at Concorso eons ago. There was a red one with wires in Calfornia too as well as the dark blue one you once had, I know you were not agaisnt it but I feel wires belong on sixties cars not seventies....but to each his own M Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hello Marc / Boralogist... Sorry, for the delay, but I had to wait for my handlers in North Korea to grant me access to the internet !!! Interesting that I thought I was keeping a car for future generations to enjoy, and now find myself a "guest" of the Peoples Republic for 3 years over this same car! Without starting a debate on this thread.. I guess I think it all comes down to what the designer intended and what the factory had to do. And all current owners should follow which path they determine is best for them. For now, I choose the way the car came from the factory. As a side thought - perhaps had the factory NOT done what they did to meet the US standards, K's would not have been imported and there would be even fewer K's here than there already are! Maybe, I or the next owner may change our minds and convert. But I am content for now owning a K with the US bumpers... Oops.. gotta run, my shift on the rock pile starts in a few minutes! P.S. I don't think the car looks so bad... (AM120 US 1120 in all her glory)! Mike Image Unavailable, Please Login
Mike, if Marc S cannot break your will to keep the bumpers, then the North Korean penal system has no chance, ((((-; Regards to all Mark
hahhaha, Mike fair play great post I applaud you If the rock pile and sledge hammer Kim Jong Un generously tasked you with gets too depressing read "In order to live" by Yeomni Park, a young woman who escaped north Korea via China an incredible survival story which will give you great fortitude...but less seriously steal some jeep wheels fit them to your K and storm the north south Korea border, you can do it, the car is named by a storm after all;-) Awaiting your next report from Seoul any day now... Meanwhile I have informed Pyongyang that your bumpers are NSA CIA spying devices... 1120 looks like the pretty girl in high school in the 70's...with the external mouth dentition correction apparatus...at what age will your K be deemed by your car dentist to have corrected her jaws?;-) All the best, Marc PS: can you believe it is 10 years, no 11, since we all had dinner in Modena and at the Panini museum? MS
The blue K had Ghibli bolt on wire wheels (which were used by Maserati in the early 1970's). I believe Frank M. installed those wheel before I got the car. I agree with you that a K looks the best with its original wheels, but the Ghibli wires did not look bad (in my opinion). Ivan Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
To each his own. I would also be concerned about hard driving on twisty roads with such spoke wheels but to conclude they don't belong on K's and Cozza and Collina of Maserati Classiche would roll their eyes and say Sunset boulevard only...yes let's move on... ....and to change the subject a good friend multiple Khamsin owner has with perfect timing just found where the T top Khamsin went after the Bonhams Grand Palais auction 2015: http://www.museum-volante.de/classic-car-exhibition/?lang=en Photo in post below:
