Ron is he going to be in inclement weather?

Search out a 4.0 Jeep Cherokee 4x4 if so. Rock solid and cheap to own. Storage, reliability etc.

Brand new Ford Fiesta can be bought for mid to high teens with a stick.

Since the thread title includes the word "inexpensive", might we assume that you are selling a Subaru 360? :)

Personally, I went with a new VW Tiguan 4 Motion with Navigation.

Simple sub $200 mth lease payment, give it back when they graduate ( incentive to graduate in time ) and it doesn't really matter what happens to it while its " at college "

    Under warranty

    Reliable

    Safe

AWD ( Great in snow from experience as I drove ours back from CO during winter! )

    Low maintenance

low profile ( vs BMW, MB, Ferrari )

48m , 12k miles a year , I did not purchase the pre paid service , so I could take care of that , making sure I see the car at least once a year!

FWIW- the streets of Baltimore are terrible. Get something that can stand up to potholes and frost heaves.

I bought my college age daughter a 2006 Jag x-type with 70k miles for $4,800. AWD, anti lock brakes, traction control, sunroof etc. If it was a Subaru it would have been $10,000 and her piers think she's styling.

If her "piers" think she is styling, she should dock their paychecks for riding with her! ;)

That sounds like a seriously good price for the mileage, even if the base platform is Ford Mondeo, right? I paid about same price for my daughter's 2006 Ford Escape XLT V6 with AWD, an excellent traction control etc but 110k miles.

The platform is from the Ford Mondeo, which is why I like it! The market loves used Japanese cars and hates used Jags. That creates opportunities.

And the Ford Escape is based on the Mazda Tribute, a Japanese platform, which is why I liked that.

We truly are a global economy these days!

When I was a worthless college student (it took me six years to get an undergrad degree, but hey I paid for it), I had a Dodge Dart. You know, one with a push button shifter on the dash. I used to carry a five-gallon can of oil in the truck, which I had to wire shut because the lock didn't work. Every time I filled up with gas, I filled up with oil. I didn't have to worry about locking it, nobody would ever steal it. But, the radio still worked!

I ended up leasing him a new Jetta.
Three year term, 15k miles per year.
$137.00 a month no money down.
    Fantastic car for the money.

    Problem solved!

And I think Jettas are cool cars in that crowd, but then what do I know about that young crowd. :D
