What regulatory hurdles does Kubica need to complete to race?

What's the status of his superlicense?

As I understand it,... he also need FIA medical delegate clearance...

Would be amazing to see him drive in a race. Talk about beating the idds!

    Go Robert!!

They'll grant him superlicense again due to previous experience, Schumacher technically had the same issue. He also passed the FIA medical test (since this is an official test session that needed to be completed yesterday).

Would love to see him back!

OK! So now the question is, will Renault make room for him by dumping Palmer?

    Yes - No ??

Kubica in a Renault would be better for the sport than Palmer in that seat

I'm sure Liberty realizes that and has talks with Renault

Even if Kubica drove no better than Palmer it would be better for Renault. It's a marvelous comeback story and Kubica is really well liked everywhere.

As long as Kubica does no worse than Palmer would it's a plus for Renault. But we all believe he would far exceed Palmer's ability anyway.

Personally, I would love to see this happen.

Who else is competing for the seat? Palmer is out. RB isn't going to let Sainz go. Perez looks like he'll be staying with FI. Alonso isn't going to bother. Renault doesn't have any promising young drivers. I hope it's as simple as it seems for him to be in F1 next year.

Would be great if they choose to give Kubica a seat.

F1 is a hard nosed business, if he is 100% fit and also fast enough (at least as quick as Hulkenburg) and can stand the demands of a full season then why not.

Although Renault probably have a number of other drivers with sponsorship knocking on their door for 2018.

Of course Renault needs to say that they commit to Palmer. But only until they decide otherwise.
They have nothing to lose with replacing him with Kubica and so much to gain. And should Kubica continue to impress they might have one of the strongest driver pairs on the grid. Should he not, this is a learning year anyways.

On the other side I fail to see what the benefit of keeping Palmer would be. He has never really gotten around to show a strong side. Only him an Ericsson have yet to score points this year. But his team mate is comfortably at home in the top 10.

Acutally, looking at the team standings:
    Williams 41
    STR 39
    Haas 29
    Renault 26
I would argue Renault has a realistic shot at P4 in the team standings. They need a stronger driver to get there. Those 26 points are all the Hulks.

To me, Palmer and Eriksson are clearly the worst drivers on the grid (together with Stroll)..take out those 3 and the rest is actually pretty good! (well, warewolf and Kvyat not that great!)

    Ocon.

Autohebdo the main French racing weekly which is very well informed particularly concerning Renault wrote recently that since there is some industrial collaboration between Mercedes and Renault Ocon could end up being loaned....I don't recall the specifics nor do I have time to find the article but what team would not want him and he is French like Renault.
By the way Lando Norris yesterday first day in the Mclaren and sets a lap two tenths faster than Alonso qualified days before in the same weather and track conditions: I knew he was special:)

Agree, Renault must be watching Ocon...one thing is certain..they would have to be crazy to keep Palmer with so many good options!!
