Seb won in a "Minardi" that alone made him into a racing god. Then he set lots of F1 records/firsts as the youngest. Add to that 4 WDCs and you have a goat. Who knows what went on that year, maybe he needed a break (Prost, Hakkinen), maybe he tried to get out of the contract, maybe his head was somewhere else (Maranello), maybe the team was no longer on his side. He is certainly back on top now and has a realistic chance in becoming the #2 goat of all times.

I definitely think ricciardo is a top driver and better than max. Max has more raw speed IMO. As for vettel, webber who was never more than a midpack driver won races in those cars. The car was much more flattering to vettels records. I don't want to take anything away from him, he's a 4x wdc and hopefully a 5th at the end of this year, I just don't define him as a goat. If he wins this year hell cement himself in the top 10 for sure. He could change my mind in the future and I really am rooting for him, just not goat to me.
Yes he is. And I'm an equal fan of both. Alonso is the best driver on the grid. And yes we know how you feel about him haha
Everyone knows I'm not his biggest fan but I see exactly what he is, and surely that's the fastest on the grid. Max will one day usurp that position as he'll get faster and faster

Here is the 2017 results: 2017 totals: Qualifying: Max 6, Ric 5, NA 0 Race: Max 2, Ric 1, NA 8 (excluding NAs caused by DNFs Max 5, Ric 6) Max has only out qualified Ric once, Ric has beaten Max 6 to 2 in races. Max only wins if I don't include DNFs. So Ric is the BETTER driver! As IamRobG confirms. Note also that Ric's results would be even better if Max had not taken him out in the last race. Andreas, I want to swear at you. What a load of **** that comment was. Ric is the best passer on the grid. His late braking without lock ups are amazing. Honestly sometimes Andreas, your head is firmly up somewhere it should not be. I for one did think Webber was going to finally pull through, but unlike Ric, Webber was a good qualifier and a lousy racer. Ric is both, a good qualifier and racer. I soon gave up on Webber ... sadly, but reality is what it is/was. Max is just a crasher. He is not fast enough to be considered the next MS, heck he can't even beat or out qualifier is team mater ... very not MS like. Pete

I remember reading the same about Vettel. He was dubbed F1's "Crash Kid" by I believe Martin Whitmarsh. Yeah good call, Martin. Read this - sound familiar to what we hear now about Max? Whitmarsh: Vettel needs to learn from Button clash | F1 News | Crash 4 WDCs and almost 50 wins later Vettel is one of the greatest ever and Whitmarsh is out of F1 doing lord knows what. LOL he's already one of the fastest guys on the grid in one lap speed. Trust me when I say Hamilton would want no part of Max in an equal car. Ricciardo is also entering his prime age wise while Verstappen is just getting started. When Ricciardo was Max's age he was placing 2nd in Formula Renault 3.5. You guys forget just how uber talented this kid is to be in F1 at this age much less doing what's doing. Look at Stroll to see how most would fare at 19. You guys always bring up Daniel beating Seb, well he lost to Jean Eric Vergne pretty badly in the same car in 2012 and didn't exactly blow him into the weeds in 2013 (20pts to 13pts). Max will have 5x the career of Ricciardo when all is said and done. And that's to take nothing away from Ricci who is a top echelon driver.
Wait what? Max has outqualified Ricciardo 6 times, not once. If we're going to be fair, we should only take in account not-at-fault DNF's. I hardly think complete and utter car failures are the drivers fault: Ricciardo (tragically) in Melbourne (both race and quali I believe) Russia (he was behind Max) and Hungary, Max at Shanghai (quali), Bahrain, Spain, Canada (from 2nd!), Baku (from 4th and what would ultimately have been the win) and Austria. Out of every race Max retired from, he was ahead of Ricciardo. In Monaco Verstappen was also ahead but due to strategy he lost the podium to Ricciardo. Suddenly it looks a lot different, I'm sure you agree? Speaking of the Spanish GP...Max got vilified here by the usual crowd how he was too aggressive, making his move round the outside...saying it was his own fault for being there. Ricciardo near enough copies the move and that's not classified as aggressive (note: I don't believe Verstappen OR Ricciardo where in the wrong with their respective moves round the outside. It's a calculated risk). All that said, Ricciardo is by far the the cleanest driver out there, and at that has formidable speed. I've nothing against him, the contrary in fact. He's my favourite driver together with Kimi. This I disagree with. This year the tally is at one, when he hit Ricciardo after a lock up. Remember this is only his 4th car racing season, Ricciardo is in his 12th. IMO a crasher is a guy like Grosjean was back in 2012 or whenever. Hamilton the same in 2010 or thereabouts, when he crashed into everything that moved.

When you compare drivers Andreas you have to compare them as a distinct time not assume future improvements. So at the moment Ric is better than Max. Sure in 5 years time Max may have a better record, and be even faster, but in the same car now Ric is superior. Pete BTW when I said Max has only out qualified Ric once I meant 1 more time, ie 6 versus 5 times he has out qualified his team mate so pretty even.
True And I can see Ricci become a WDC (just as Nico did and Irv almost did) but Max will be a multiple WDC PS: as said before this is not about Down Under, Jones is my hero but I so don't care for the shoe drinker
