I would be very happy to see more pics too, I agree, nothing wrong with a replica that is done correctly.

I guess I'm lucky in that regard, my wife shares the passion for cars equally.

I'm getting more and more interested in a Lister Bell.

It checks the bucket list for a Stratos at 1/10th the price. (Or less!)

I disagree. That's a retro design that largely misses the point.

It may be your taste, but it's not mine.

    One last bit of information:

In 2008, design, development, and manufacturing of the new Stratos was commissioned by Michael Stroschek to Pininfarina.

In my opinion, the New Stratos is a compromised Ferrari 430 that cost 100 times more to build than the very purposeful Lister Bell replica.

And I feel like the retro designs have been played out. Thunderbird, VW Beetle, PT Cruiser, Plymouth Prowler, and so on.

Perhaps the ones you named really are ready for permanent archiving, I agree. However, others more recently have been quite successful in how they mimic their forebears, and how they've improved upon their earlier designs:

    Jeep Wrangler
    Chevy Camaro
    Ford Mustang
    Porsche 911
    Dodge Challenger
And, of course, the Lancia Stratos

Wrangler and 911 are evelotions that never went out of production. And the Ford GT was well done.

But that's a lot of retro examples.

    Bump.

The stars are looking aligned. A Lister Bell Stratos might be my next project.

Any updates in the LB world?

Still working mine over. We bought a house and moved shortly after I had posted in this thread so progress is so slow.

Prices for decent examples in europe have been steadily rising as well. So its a good time to have one in your garage.

Also doesnt help I bought an A110!

    Awesome...

    What are your plans Matt?
Buying the kit, ship it over to PA from the UK and assemble it here? Alfa 164 or 166 drivetrain? Color scheme? Is there anything other than black for interior? The exchange rate is favorable I believe....

Been surfing around, looking at them, pondering one for some 5 years, Top Gear likes them. I've done a restoration before, 6 years with excellent results so I feel competent. I purchased an Alfa 164LS to try out the drivetrain for a few years, intention was to part it out for the LB kit, but it was just too nice to sacrifice, then I sold it last spring in preparation for other purchases, negotiating for an Alfa Junior Zagato now.. hm... maybe the LB if that purchase doesn't pan out! It's easier to pull the trigger on a complete car, I guess I too am waiting for my "stars to align" ... three kids who begin entering college in two years.. LOL..

Anyway - what have you researched so far? My understanding is around $50k, with plus/minus variables like whether you or they provide the drivetrain, and other interior, trim or accessory parts..?

I'd love to hear your plans, findings or expectations. I think recent changes to US regs let them provide turn-key cars now too...
    Cheers,

Hi, when I contacted LB about a slot for a turn key car. Told the order book is full until 2021. Ball park cost £80k GBP.

I think your last part about US regs is i accurate; at least it wasn’t true in 2018 when I imported a Pur Sang Bugatti.

I think your ballpark is right, which makes it seem like an amazing deal.

I’m not sure what I’m planning; although thinking about it is the fun part. I’m wavering between Martini racing colors and something non-original like a dark red. No periscope if a solid color, no rally lights either. But if Martini it would have a spare tire on the roof.

Ideally a 3.0 Alfa Busso. I’d have the chassis shipped over and install the engine and transmission.

I emailed a few days ago, but haven’t heard anything. I’ll call next week.

Nice to hear your plans, Matt.. best wishes moving ahead with it!

Anything related to a Stratos is fun to think about for sure. I don't know much about the 166, but as you probably know 3.0 Busso's are fairy plentiful in the US out of a manual 164. Not costly either. There is solid enthusiast support for the 164 on www.AlfaBB.com so there is a decent chance of sourcing the drivetrain without the rest of the car. 164 3.0s also have some easy bolt on upgrades; a Squadra ECU chip, plus Q-spec intake runners will gain you about 40hp for under $500.

The rooftop spare tires look wicked.

Might just have to build two:
    - One in Rallye livery (make mine Alitalia, thank you, yellow bars all around).
    - One 'Stradale' ..(hmm.. any color except Rosso).. never seen on in metallic.

    Cheers,
    - Art
