I own a Speciale and a 348. Had Scuderia. Problems with 348,355,360 is timing belt service. Cost a lot of cash.... and you have 3 of them, heaven forbid. My Speciale has 7 years free servicing.... It is so easy to drive, which some say is boring, but you take it to the limit, trust me, it is by no means a boring car at all. Its incredible.... Im a hard core manual guy. But I would never take a manual Speciale over the DCT. The car is just so quick and lightning fast you could never change gears faster enough manually then you can with DCT. And you need it because the next corner comes up so much faster in that car. Its makes driving faster so much more fun. Unless someone has really tried it, dont take their judgement because they have not driven one. The Speciale is a very elegant car too, in my opinion like the 355. It has amazing shape. I believe the Speciale will only go up in value, thats my opinion..... Look at it this way, its much easier to go back to a 355 or a 360 money wise.
And for the OP and someone like me, that is the problem. OP: When driven for touring, the extreme level of performance makes them boring at any acceptable speeds on back country New England roads. A car that exceeds the limits of the roads you drive on in 1st or 2nd gear just isn't fun to drive. And frankly, the DC trans makes it worse. You get tired real fast of pulling the paddles just to move to the cursing gear and end up leaving it in auto mode. At least with a gated car you can go 1.... 2..... and then jump to what ever gear you want to cruse in.
I'm typically over the speed limit in 1st gear in the 355, second for sure. My buddy has a 458 - loves it and has plenty of opportunity to push the car, clearly not to the limits but enough to enjoy it. We took a nice ride yesterday and had some good roads to open them up Image Unavailable, Please Login
You definitely need a 458. And the Special is the ultimate of the marque. How you arrive into possession and what you put back into the market place will be interesting [emoji41] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Most, if not all the reviews say the Speciale is the ultimate car.... at the limit. But what is it on the streets? How much of that ultimate track experience gets transferred over? Youd have to really open it up and be flying down the hwys to get remotely close. This is why I said the 355 can be the more rewarding "street" experience over the two.
Good feedback. Sounds like I need to test drive a Scud! Looking sharp. Love that nero F355 ----- Quick update - The trade values from the dealer still left a decent amount of cash needed to get the Speciale. Most likely keeping the stable as is for now. Hard to imagine life without a 355 anyways!
Thanks. Yeah, I'm quite sure they were not offering you much given they still need to flip the cars and cover their cost. Good to see you are staying a part of our group
Thank you Dave. Heading to NC on Thursday for some drive time in the 355's with my father and brother. Looking forward to it!
Smart move I think. Funny how multiple $60-120k cars still seems more justifiable than a $600-700k lone car. LOL. Funny problems. I personally could not let the dealer get my nice 355's for wholesale. Pains me. Sit tight. Enjoy the other rides. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I was following along with your report until I came to this. Once you drive the Speciale you realize it is on a different planet than either the CS or the SCUD. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING I have ever had comes close. And I have had two CS's a SCUD as well as 15 or 20 other exotics (including the Ford GT). For visceral feel it equals or even exceeds the mighty F40. Its. That. Good.
Tempted to go for a test drive. Would be hard not to make a deal I'm sure. Perhaps a gated 355 and 360, and a Speciale. That is a nice combination.
I have a gated F355 Spider and a 458 Italia. It's the perfect combo. I would keep one F355 sell the rest and get an Italia or Speciale. You might want to try a regular Italia they are awesome. I was between adding a Scud or Italia to my F355 and decided on the Italia and for me it was the right choice given the other cars in my collection. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
There is another potential buyer flying in from Seattle tomorrow to see the Speciale. Considering the trade values, I would have to do some private party deals to gather the capital needed for the Speciale. Think I'm going to hold off for now and keep the 355's and 360. Maybe in the future I can trade with another FChatter. Working with dealerships is always tough.
And the harsh reality is, right now the 355's and 360's are down on value while the Speciale is not. So, you would be swimming up current..
The exotic classic car world is dictated by investors and a few millionaires with more money than all the third world country GDP. They put a price on a car not for its useful function or one of a kind beauty but on the notion that says they have something very few has. Every car enthusiast wants it thus come the prestige of owning one and potential future value. In the case of the 250 GTO sold at an auction recently. It's as ugly as it gets. I imagine useless as an automobile. Today's Honda Civic is more drivable. Yet we get influenced into thinking something that commands such a price is to die for. Im gonna offend a lot of people by saying this, I have a hard time coming up with a reason why I should buy something that offers neither form nor function. If I had money to swing it, future value is irrelevant. I guess the prestige of owning one does add me to the ranking. For most enthusiasts, I suppose, the hype that goes along prestige and future value is all that matters that is why we look for the smallest of differing details in the cars we like or have and magnify it 100 folds to justify its value. The truth is a Stradale, a Scud or a Speciale is no more special than its siblings other than cosmetics and a few extra horses. It doesn't justify three times the value. And there is no logical reason to trade 3 Ferrari for 1 other than the financial incentive of flipping the car for a profit. For the joy, the more Ferrari you own, the bette. I can understand trading one of two 355's for another Ferrari but trading two and a third for one, you are buying into hype. Good thing OP didn't make the deal. I woulda unfriend him/ herLoL 😂
disagree big time. owning two 355's to me make zero sense. Its twice the maintenance cost for the same car(same driving experience) and 355 are not cheap to maintain at all. One of the most expensive Fcars to own. Whats the difference in joy from driving one to the other? nothing, they are the same. In the OP situation I would sell one 355 directly, keep the cash(or buy an R8(same value in EU) and enjoy the 360 and 355. At least the 360 is something(but not much) different to the 355. Now the Speciale is a totally different car. I have a Speciale and a 348 and I enjoy both of them. The 348 is a cruise machine that I grew up with as a poster on my wall. As I have aged so has the 348 performance and I must admit its rather boring in comparison .... I do have a Lamborghini Aventador SV as well. So with the SV, Speciale and 348 I cover all grounds of driving sports cars experience. But in the OP situation he has 3 of more or less the same type of cars that are very little in difference to each other. Speciale is truly an amazing car and with 7 years free servicing, that can not be ignored.
I agree with Zakeen. Two of the same type of 355 is probably not necessary. Keep the one you like most. How about trade 355 & 360 for a 458? 458s are good value and only getting cheaper. It will help you get used to a Speciale down the line.
LoL, I think I put too many quarters in the juke box. Is it safe to say, for many there are two defining aspects of Ferrari ownership. One is the performance. The other is the vestment potential. I hear the rhyme in every conversation. I wonder if the rhythm matches. Let the music play. Ferrari is the most sought after brand in Automotive History. Owning a Ferrari does come with perks. Driving without a license plate. Get away driving like its stolen. Cops pull me over to see what under the hood. Female cops pull me over to see what's in the trunk. I get the best spot at the valet. My "squeeze" always look her best on date night. Ok, I admit, all this only happened in my dream but the respect Ferrari gets on the street is real and the other brands dare not challenge its status quo. It's all good right? Not exactly. Man inherent nature can not exist in a state of utopia, all love, peace and equal. When there's lack an external challenge, an internal one will surface. The saying goes, me and my cousin against my enemy. Me and my brother against my cousin. Me against my brother. This is the underlying thinking process we go through evaluating situations constantly at every level. In sports, business and social clubs of all kind. Because Ferrari is a premier band without a credible challenge, folks start splitting hair between the models to justify why a particle trim of the same run is worth more. We are talking about horse power in the 600 to 700 range. Does 30 extra horses in one trim make it much better? And my logic follows, does it justify 2 to 3 fold price tag? Again. It's my opinion. Furthermore, horse power and torque aren't the sole indication of joy associated with sport cars. I mentioned in another post, sitting in a plane traveling 400 mph doesn't give you orgasm. It is the turbulence that causes the change in direction; up and down, in and out. The more severe the change, the greater the orgasm. The same affect happens in a plane or in a car. On Earth or in he air. Where ever there's gravity. Now that we've determined horse power and toque aren't the sole factor associated with high performance sport cars, there has to be something else that justify why we're willing to pay a premium for a specific trim of a model run. Ah yes investment, future value. Now I see it or maybe I don't. Or maybe I see thing others don't. Throwing $400k on car and expect to gain $100-$200k in 15-20 years is not economically sound. Even if the $400k investment becomes $800k in its lifetime, there are better ways to invest. This is where location, location, location comes into play. If I pull out $400k out of my rentals and purchase a $400k Ferrari as an investment, I would be broke. It costs me more in short and long term. I suppose an argument can be made, you don't drive a house thus the absent of joy. I like to counter that argument. How often does anyone drives their high dollar garage queen? Well, I did my number. Get up and dance everyone. The music is playing and I'm listening. pssssssss...... I think the prestige of owning a rare car does come into play but.......if you can afford a $28 mil car, do you car about its future worth? 🤔
That Speciale is amazing! Keep a 355 and pick up a 458 Speciale down the road when you can. That would be a great combo of cars to own.
Hah, don't unfriend me, I didn't do it! 458 or Speciale came to mind as well. Just really like the Speciale.. Re: two 355's. It's good for going out with friends or my brother and father, we all have similar fun cars to drive. Also I just love these cars, hard to explain. Going through with a trade would be tough. Real estate would be a better investment than three F-cars. Working to use other capital on investment projects, and enjoy the cars in free time. I hear ya. 355 and Speciale, great combo.
Politics may divide friends but cars make them worst enemies. I got my finger on the "unfriend" button the whole time. Close call. I hope it doesn't happen again. Ferraris has no hierarchy. Every model run is unique. They sit on top the performance food chain of their era if anyone cares. I won't bother to say it is the most beautiful brand of all. I will say, the model that speaks to you, is the one you seek. For me, I don't "trade" into other people dreams, fantasies or flavor of the years hype. I have my own fantasies. I act them out at home but no drugs, alcohols or video cameras involved . My dollar has to make sense and beauty is seen through my eyes. The 355 Spyder is my first love and last. Everything else is an addition to, not a replacement. Yes, I am bias. Trading two 355 and a third Ferraris from two generations for one, there is no logical reason other then trading into hype. Before everyone starts sending me hatel mail, note that I rather be in a lake of Ferraris than a sea of the other brands. I'll take any Ferrari over any brand of the same standing but between Ferraris, the 355 Spyder is number One. I beg for forgiveness, I am The Pepsi Generation.
