You don't need so called "nice" watches to post here. Interesting, and even not so interesting, are welcome so post away.
Wait 'til you see what watch I'm wearing Monday.

Very electric blue. Better pics on my "horoexpat" Instagram feed. I got it for my 49th bday. For my 50th it was a custom tailored suit from the wife. The 20th wedding anniversary next year will be matching Reversos. Life could be worse.

I've always been curious how one of those knockoffs compared to the real thing. Any comparisons you can draw for me? I've heard some are pretty good!

Today is my birthday so I'm wearing the most valuable watch I own.

In the very early 1960's I was a young boy. I told my mother that men wore watches and since I was approaching the age of seven I certainty qualified and needed a watch. My mother told me I had better save my money so I could buy myself one. Being the spirit I am I starting walking down the block and knocking on doors. I found a lady who said she would pay me a penny a minute to paint her fence. Yep, I was killing it....60 cents an hour baby! Each day after school my mom would help me get set up and I painted and did various chores until I saved enough money to ride my bike into town and buy a manual wind Timex watch at Woolworth's.

A few years ago my wife found it in an old jewelry box. It wasn't running and had obviously been subjected to moisture over the years. I always wondered if there was any way.....

Like some of you I have a few watches that are pretty pricey and are serviced by the guys at ABC in Los Angeles. I called them recently and asked if they might know of any way I could get my old watch restored. I was amazed when not only did they know who could help me but they also had his contact info. I called this old guy in Florida who when I said, "Alex suggested I call you. This is silly and it isn't worth anything but I was wondering.." He interrupted me and said, "If you know Alex then you have some high dollar watches. I'd be willing to bet you wouldn't trade your old Timex for one of those Swiss jobs or you wouldn't be calling me." He was right; lesson learned.

He is a Florida snowbird so we made arrangements for me to ship it to his house in Delaware. He called me a few weeks later and told me he had all the parts needed to bring it back to original condition. When I asked him how much his reply was, "Would $40 be too much?"

I wear it on occassion to remind me to be humble and to remind me how far I've come......Today, my birthday, it is on my wrist ticking away.......
