Value of '08 Scud w/ No CF Diffuser and No Clutch Wear Info

Hey guys,

Would you consider an '08 Scud with no rear diffuser and no clutch wear info? I'm looking at a low mileage Rosso Scuderia (~3k miles) that has the CF splitter, CF headlights, but no CF rear diffuser, which was a $10k option for the MY2008 pre-US Carbon Pkg. Additionally, the dealer does not have the clutch wear info. How much would these missing items affect the price and long-term value? They are asking $225k.

Additionally, would you consider a car w/o the US CF pkg altogether? How would that affect long-term value?

 

Hey arrwin ..my thoughts ...a decent ppi would tell you clutch wear so I would not worry about that during negotiations ..the carbon automatically reduces the the value of the car by at least 10k ...but you can get get aftermarket later ....the car should be around low to mid 190s as a good deal ..just get a good ppi

Clutch wear info is a just a scan away...why would that even be an issue?

 

The car is being sold by a Porsche dealer so I was thinking they don't have the correct computer(?). I am also thinking the car should be under $200k but that's a big delta from their asking. Also, what is the price difference between an '08 and '09 given apples to apples?

That's correct, they don't have the SDx, don't need them for Porsches. As said, definitely take it to a Ferrari dealer to get it inspected, they can scan, get clutch wear, etc. Any dealership worth their weight will allow that. It's about 4-800 depending on what you get done (compression test, etc.) It's a necessity to any Ferrari purchase..

 

Price seems high. It sounds like you want CF package and long term this is a must. You have to buy the car you want. This is not it.

 

How long has it been on the market? The price will probably be dropped monthly by around 1-2% of the asking price until sold.

 

It's been for sale for a long time, that's all I remember on this one.

 

You will be paying for the low mileage! Can't tell if it has the carbon headlights or not...? A scan can also give you the brake wear of the expensive rotors...

 

Hey , I was looking at this car also and I came close to buying it. They have an estimate for work needed on the car (actually pretty good PPI starting point) that they sent to me as "service history". The salesman was unaware none of the work was done except an oil change.

Car sounded a bit rough. It was also initially delivered to Puerto Rico, then a few years later shipped to Florida. Sounds like it spent some time outside exposed to elements.

-CF headlights are sun bleached (14k to replace)

- battery tray described as oxidized from "exposure"

- CF engine bay faded

- leather & dash vents have damage from exposure

-needs all 4 tires and alignment

- scuffs on 3 of 4 of rims

- clutch 80% left.

I was thinking of a low mile scud as a investment. When I pointed out the known work needed, and only service records available was the oil change ~2 years ago I was hoping they would negotiate. Not a penny! So I passed.

See if the salesman will send you the records.

Duly noted!

Had the dealer check and he confirmed the front splitter and headlights are in CF, but not the rear diffuser. I understand the CF parts were individually optioned in the early '08s.



Would you guys agree with this assessment on options with respect to desirability and long-term resale value?

I have seen perfect scuds in that price range. You are looking at a sub 200 car IMO.

I believe LED wheel is standard on US cars. Factory stripe and carbon package probably impact value the most. Leather vs alcantara can also have some effect. The other items I don't think are as big of an issue if we're talking long term desirability/value. Manuals/keys/cover can all be ordered or bought off ebay. Yellowing carbon fiber can be repaired by companies like MACarbon. Hazy headlights can also be repaired by opening and cleaning out the lenses (I had a body shop do this on my car and the headlights look brand new). Bumper respray also not a big issue - nearly every used ferrari has had bumpers repainted at some point, even brand new cars often get paint work after being transported from Italy. Tires not an issue as the oem ones are not great anyway. Records can also be obtained by calling the dealer where car was serviced (if you're nice). VIP book and original window sticker are nice to have, but I dont think they impact value much unless its a mint very low mile collector quality car. I'd also check the number of owners as this can have an effect on resale.

 

I agree with everything you said. Nothing seems terribly involved, but will cost $ to bring to a what a <4K mile car should be. They were not willing to negotiated on price despite paying cash.

-lack of any service history is not good for an "investment."

-imported from Puerto Rico to Florida may sound a bit "storied."

- so if they won't even negotiate a penny, why would I get a PPI?

Scud market appears a bit soft, and there and many out there, I just couldn't justify the purchase, but I was very tempted by the mileage (only).

The car is way overpriced, sounds like it has lots of issues, there will always be a better one. Not sure why you are pursuing this. Let some Porsche guy that knows nothing about scuds buy it and enjoy it.

 

Thank you for everyone's advice and insight. Raimondo...for the details on the car. They had sent me some of the same info (or lack thereof) of the car. I spoke to them today and kindly suggested to them that they are priced too high and should be under $200k, esp due to the lack of items we have been discussing here. They said they are not moving off the internet price except for maybe a few grand and that I wasted their time because my expectations were so far off. I wished them luck and thanked them.

Just to give them some reference point, I also mentioned to them the $210k sale of the Monterey car. They said they are not an auction house and are in the business of retailing cars.

I'm ibterested in seeing how long this car will continue to sit. Again...everyone's feedback has been invaluable. Thanks!

 

With that attitude ..I would run ..they need you not the other way around in this market

Way overpriced for what it's "lacking." You'll find a perfect example for what you're looking for soon - just keep those eyes peeled! Haha.

 

Just out of curiosity, how much do you think a bumper respray affects the value of these scuds? I'm not talking about the ultra low mileage garage queens people are looking at investments but cars that are somewhat driven (15-30,000+ miles). I would assume that most cars that are actually driven will have their bumper resprayed at some point to maintain a really clean finish.

$0 if done properly and not due to an accident. You'd be surprised how many cars have had bumper resprays, even ultra low mileage garage queens.

0 for driver, very small for garage queen. It was all the other stuff with lack of negotiating. It's not my fault they are into the car for way more than what it's worth. Pity.

All great discussions and I, for one, am learning a lot. Thank you! I would have thought a resprayed bumper would negatively impact the value but sounds like only on low-mileage collectible examples. And not much on ones that are driven. Good to know.

I have seen the fogging of the CF headlights, but was wondering is this what yellowing carbon looks like? I'm assuming this is merely a aesthetic issue? What is the cost of fixing (replacing?) damaged carbon for the airboxes, side panels?
