Yes, but then all the stuff about new modular platform weight reduction and stiffness increase is true or false??

I think it is too much like the Jag F Type, DB11 and AMG GTS. The cockpit seems to be moved further back. It's not so Ferrari as the Cali T even though it's a Ferrari. I will have to see one in person before I agree to plop down money for it. I like the improved HP and they imply the sound is better as well as the comfort. I really like the front end changes and I like the profile but it's no longer unique.

I was sitting in a 488 spider on Saturday and realized I hate the look out the windshield with those raised wheel wells. The Cali looks great from the driver seat and I think this one will but it will be more like a Corvette but no rag top. It's a nice design.

    I hate the name.

    It's caught McLaren 720s disease!

We're doomed. The dark age of ugly aero is upon is. How long will we be made to suffer before this fever breaks?

Disagree with you completely....Portofino is miles ahead of Cali/T...812 is just an acquired taste and Lusso by far better (refined) design to FF

For me, it's the name that's a bit off.....too many syllables- lol

Some comparative views, IMO a more balanced design front to rear with the new car especially with the fast-back rear design... The Cali had a very heavy looking rear that the redesigned version hid a little better, but it was still too obvious... And one has a happy face and the other not too much ;-)

Hopefully we'll see a rendered image with the larger, hand-painted "Scuderia" shields.

What did California have to do with Ferrari? At least Portofino is in Italy...

I find the car very pleasing aesthetically.

They have to re-name it before I will be interested. A real shame but typical for today's marketing boys & girls...
There was a car named California a long time ago.

I disagree with most about the Portofino name. For me it evoques summer coastal driving in the Italian Riviera with the top down... in a beautiful front-engined F car. Ok, a 60's PF cabriolet would be the perfect car for that, but the Portofino will do fine, especially in TDF blue.

When I had the first glance at the profile of the Portofino I liked it instantaneously and felt there was a Pininfarina touch on it. The two pictures you published confirm what I suspected, the elegance of the master's designs is definitely there.

Aero does not have to be ugly. I'm pretty sure that a "shark grill" design would work fine to provide the same aerodynamic "air curtain" and relieve air pressure from the wheel well. But it seems that nowadays designs from Ferrari are overtly "technical" and complicated.

Mercedes has understood that simple, elegant design with only a few defining character lines work as shown by their latest AMG GT Sedan.

The general line is beautiful. If only the designers could stop themselves from gimmicky aerodynamic add-ons, the car would be a classic.

Likely a Ferrari Montecarlo will be made in future years, Portofino is a particular name, a bit strange to foreign people, but for Italians is simply another name like Fiorano, Modena, Maranello, if you're Italian you appreciate this.

Ferrari is a global brand. They aren't selling all their cars to Italians. Name recognition is key. Monday, for example is a vastly superior option.

What's wrong with Portofino for name recognition though? It's a very very well known place, if you have money to buy this new car you almost 100% have heard of portofino and know what it's all about. It's not as well known as "California" but there's zero wrong with this name, thank god they didn't name is Cheshire

The in-house design folks really went out on a limb here. They basically bolted on the F12 front bumper and did their best to make it look like a Jaguar F-type from the side. And - just in case anyone might blink and still recognize it as a California - the marketing folk have cleverly named it the Portofino, just for more confusion (which, btw would have been a great name for a cool new design, or actually the 458, whose launch video was filmed there). At ay rate, snooze.

Lesser and lesser attractive designs, more and more horsepower. Cue the rock music for the launch video, show it surfing an ocean wave, and wait for the nouveau riche to cue up. Criticize the tifosi who own vintage cars, pontificate about how more beautiful design may bring them back into the fold, restrict their participation in events unless they sign up for Classiche, tell shareholders how great you're doing. Wonder how much buyers will have to pay for the privilege of everyone thinking they have a California.

The towns Fiorano, Modena and Maranello are related with the brand. Portofino is not except it is Italian. Napoli is Italian, too, as well as Parma or Firenze...

Seems like they just came out with the Cali T. Time flies.

Car andDriver says first generation California was 2009-2014. So Cali T 2015. Portofino deliveries 2018? That's pretty quick.
