My 1980 LP400S came originally with Way Assauto shocks. Anyone know if they can be rebuilt? 37 year old oil may be a bit worn out. I have complete spare set of LP5000S shocks sitting around, but IIRC they are Konis and may not fit a LP400S. Eurospares lists different part nos. for LP400 and LP5000S shocks, but have no parts list for the LP400S. I fear that neither will fit. Way Assauto's site unfortunately does not list Lamborghini applications.
Hey John, The shocks can be sent to FJB Limited in Peoria,Arizona. What he will do is rebuild with Koni internals.....or at least he does with the Aristons. I can not confirm he has a design for the Way Assauto. I will most likely be sending mine over the winter ,perhaps.
I had 6 Wat Assauto rebuilt locally in Italy very resonanle, about €100 per shock, which invluded sand blasting, repainting, yellow zinc plating, new bushings, oil, etc
We also had all six Way Assauto units rebuilt as part of the entire suspension restoration, and the difference in handling is stark. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks for all the responses, I now have some hope they can be rebuilt. Unfortunately my LP400S is on a different continent that me so the pictures help. Thanks Joe. I once bought a mass quantity of used Countach bits and found a spare set of 6 shocks in the crate - from comparing photos I think they are Way Assauto examples. Oddly, the ones on my LP400S are dark red. Did the QVs not come with Konis? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Can I ask where? I will be in Bologna next weekend and might have an empty suitcase for the trip out...
Chris Dugan of Dugan Enterprises LLC in Oceanside restored our car and handled the sublet, he can advise you.
No, same as LP500S, see owner's manual chapter 4.6 - the setting of the shocks and type is mentioned.
