The engine is from 911 turbo s with larger turbo. So the only special thing is the larger turbo. LOL. I think they will find it very difficult to sell this one. It's limited because the demand is limited.
Sounds pretty disappointing...although it will probably be extremely quick in terms of lap time.. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
It's not sure, imho the LaFerrari will be claimed top till 498/499 or whatever will be the 488 successor, Differently from Mclarens, Ferrari is so careful to not overcoming soon its cars, in 2020 maybe will be equal in laptime. 488 GTO, will be not as light as 720 for sure, since it has still old chassis from 488. I would like a claimed Fiorano lap time in 1.21/1.20.5, it depends if they want to sell it as faster than tdf .or not
Better in many respect no, Better in specif features yes, in pure speed on race track it is difficult. But for a Ferrari Enthusiast will be the most magical of the three for sure. A Ferrari has always something special and difference that is more related to heart, feeling and emotions than to Performances alone.
Most important thing I want on this model is active spoiler/aerobarake as on LAFerrari, to give more downforce and reduce braking distance, After the Enzo and LaF it's time to use this tricks also on series production cars, no wings, ok, but active spoiler is a must nowadays.
As per Autocar : "The Ferrari 488 GTO will be the most hardcore V8 supercar to leave the gates of Maranello when it's launched next year. The 488s twin-turbocharged 3.9-litre V8 engine will be boosted with increased pressure and internal modifications to produce an anticipated 700bhp, with torque also increasing substantially on the standard cars 561lb ft. Ferrari will remove non-essential parts from the interior and sound deadening from its engine bay, as well as fitting lightweight parts such as thinner glass for the windscreen and side windows, lighter ceramic brakes and forged wheels as with the 458 Speciale. This should bring the 488 GTO's kerbweight down below 1400kg, enabling exhilarating on-track performance thatll include a 0-62mph sprint time of little more than 2.7sec and a 0-124mph dash of about 7.5sec. With those stats, not even the McLaren 720S would be able to keep up. The 488 GTO will also get new software for its Side Slip Angle Control and bodywork that works the air more aggressively, generating more downforce."
its true. gt2rs is a 3rs with tts engine modded w/ bigger turbos, water tank for cooling spray like m4gts, then some more carbon fiber aero stuff. nothing revolutionary but the execution will be perfect im sure and will punch way above its performance category. will probably be fastest lap times of all street cars. and it should considering will cost $400k for a 911!
I suspect Porsche also 'modded' the crank, conrods, and pistons. Fuel injectors, fuel pump, intake system, intercoolers, radiators are likely also different to cope with the extra power. I expect Ferrari will also do extensive changes to the internals and cooling system of the 488 engine for the GTO. It's a myth to think automakers simply slap bigger turbos on, crank the boost and call it a day.
A little curious as to what Porsches have to do with info on the potential special version of the 488?
I expect at least 710 PS, 1300 kg dry maximum, challenge/gt3 inspired aero without rear wing. 0-200 km/h in 7.5 is rather optimistic, 7.8 more likely, since it will weigh a bit more than 720S and with less or equal power.
I've got some basic/dumb questions: -Is the GTO the equivalent of the Speciale (ie it will be the last year of 488 production and be the track version of the 488) -guesstimate on when will the GTO be released? -guesstimate on when you can start ordering? -guesstimate on the MSRP? -how many are they going to make?
Dunno all ... but they ARE ordered by now I heared from my dealer ... people have payed their deposits ...
