I think you should do more research on birds eye views and you will find its not just the Jag that has a similar shape from above.

I think you missed the point. Ferraris are looking less and less unique. Cheaper manufactures have motivation to look like other successful cars. The Ferrari brand does not. They have more flexibility but fail to exercise it. But still, I don't think aerial view changes the shape of the headlights, lines, and vents/intakes.

Ive never disagreed with that. In fact, my post was agreeing with it.

Im not a big fan of modern auto design in general.

Having said that, i do feel Ferrari has its own design language in several ways. I have never confused a modern Ferrari design (even if I dont dig them) with any other brand.

But then my eye is highly trained and sophisticated as far as design.

The Portofino represents a classic 2+2 seater front/mid-engine layout, which limits the design possibilities. Then also legislative regulations have to be considered (for example pedestrian protection), a further design limitation. And then more and more producers are pushing into this f/m-e car segment, a distinct differentiation becomes increasingly difficult for all. But IMO the Portofino is clearly recognizable as a Ferrari, is as a completely new car recognizable. But yes, it sets no new unique accents, no new (questionable ugly) design standards, however, for me not a problem, rather the opposite.

I criticize the closeness of the 488 to the 458, I do not see this problem here.

It's a fact aerodynamics and safety regulations make the cars look-alike.

Concerning the rear of the car, at least it doesn't look like a smiling frog like on California!

By F-chat standards, this is quite positive for a new F-car reveal. [emoji6] I still like the hood scoop on the NA Cali compared to the nostrils here & on the T, but that's a minor item. This gives me a glimmer of hope that the Ferrari design team may be hitting their stride.

Looks more like a grumpy frog, if anything. [emoji6]

I own a California and the rear end is grotesque. The worst rear end I can think of on a modern exotic. Just hideous.

NA California yes, the California T is a smiling frog, even though they "fixed" the rear a bit.

LOL. I never noticed the change from [emoji34] to [emoji846]

At any rate, the Portofino looks a worthy successor to the Cali. May they sell a zillion and save Ferrari from the ignominy of having to release an SUV!

Nope...still hideous. I bought the California because it does what I need it to do, not because of its looks...though I think the front end is very nice.

But man as soon as you get past the front tires it goes to Hell.

They put some lipstick on it with the T, but its still far from acceptable in my opinion.

I feel i can speak bluntly since I paid my money for one.

I would agree with you on that. The rear end was my least favourite part of the Cal T. A "fat ass" as some people called it. The new Portofino looks wayyyyy better.

Still has the J-Lo rear end (junk in the trunk) due to needing a lot of space to stow that folding hardtop and have a modicum of luggage space.

Huge respect and kudos for you sir. Were I you I would most definitely bang my head against the wall for paying so much money for a "Ferrari with a rear smiling frog". :D

im a creature of logic and see it this way.

lets say i have a list of 20 metrics that i weigh my car purchase against. the california checks 18 of those boxes which is more than the other cars i considered. it just so happens that one of the boxes it doesnt check is a very visible one.

but when its a great day and i can put down that hardtop, i can overlook that ugly rear end

ive never been one to buy things purely based on emotion/passion.

Each camp has its opinions. I will hold final judgement till I see it in the flesh. I absolutely love my CalifTHS feel like it has a nice flow and will age well. Hopefully the same for this car.

Just called to get on the list for one of these. From what I've been told the local dealer won't have their allotments or the configurator for a number of months still. Will be my first time speccing a car from new, can't wait.

I think the car is beautiful and will be a big hit...Much more successful design than the 812 and a good solution to a difficult packaging exercise that the California only partially solved. I never thought I'd do this -as I was never tempted to buy a California- but I have just placed an order. Great design, big improvements on interior and -since the car is designed to be used- the new infotainment will be very welcome...Judging by the order flow at my dealer, plenty of people agree with this, he was "flooded" on day 1. Well done Ferrari!

It's sounds better than let's say "Ferrari Capri". 'Cos you know, reverse some letters and you get "crapi".

In Europe btw we had the Ford Capri aka "European Mustang" .
