We have been using vBulletin 3 for 15+ years now and it hasn't been supported in a long time. It is time we upgrade the software and also get a refreshed look. We have worked hard the last 3 months with an outside firm designing, developing, and testing this update. I expect everyone will hate it at first, many things are different. I think most users will eventually like the more modern feel and functionality.

The conversion of the software and database along with all the configurations is a very intensive process. We have tried to test what we can, but it will take some time to fine tune everything. Please be patient, we'll use this thread to report and provide updates on bugs.

The forum will be closed at approximately 6 AM this Sunday Central Time. Not only are we converting the existing forum over, we are switching servers requiring DNS updates. We hope to be live again with the update by 2 PM. If you are still being pointed to the old site with a closed message, you may have to refresh cookies or DNS changes haven't taken effect yet.

I respect many users like the current design although 15 years old, so we have created an optional theme to as closely resemble the current FerrariChat as possible with different software. By default users will have the new design, but at the bottom of any page you can choose the "FerrariChat - Old" theme.

Below are screen shots of the new redesigned FerrariChat along with the "FerrariChat - Old" theme.

Please be patient as we work through the little hiccups. Thanks!

Functionally, it looks like it'll be pretty much the same, even with the new look. The preview of the classic look seems pretty similar to the current site though.

I suspect the update has something to do with security/hacking, as some other forums I am on have moved away from vBulletin for that exact reason.

Probably a good move overall, tho I mostly don't like "updated/refreshed' websites; too comfortable with the existing......

Guessing the new layout style is to accommodate the move to mobile devices...for me too much 'realestate' is lost to the fatter margins, and too much space dedicated to non-essential (to me) stuff, esp on the right side....

I have totally abandoned 2 sites that I used to follow nearly as intensively as FChat because their new layouts took up to much page space (4X scroll on my screen).

Hoping for the best....probably would not survive without FERRARI CHAT!!!!!!!!

You can change it to look like whatever you want just so as long as the new format remembers where I left off and doesn't mark everything read that I haven't read. :)

Having done this numerous times with our website, everyone at first is gonna hate it. Then it will feel like home again. Good luck. I know how much work this is behind the scenes.

Will Tapatalk still work or will I need to transition to using the mobile browser full time?

    Thanks

After seeing the classic FerrariChat theme in the new software, it feels like digital home and I think it's going to be popular. I really like it and will probably keep my account on that theme after the update. It's a very thoughtful touch to include it, thanks Rob! :)

    All the best,
    Andrew.

The virtual sky is falling!!! :p

I've looked at the test site, and it seems not too horrific. ;)

Just so long as it doesn't complain that my browser is more than ten minutes old, like too many other sites. ;)
(Or insist on Chrome, like gootube sites.)

As Ozzy Man would say, " destination ****ed".
At least until we get used to it.
I'm sure it will be good.

we'll actually do more with Tapatalk, within month or two there will be a downloadable mobile app that runs on Tapatalk in background. also, as mentioned this updated software is naturally more mobile responsive/friendly. about half our traffic now is mobile.

I just made a NO GO decision for implementation tomorrow. Not many bugs left, but a couple of them critical. New plan is to go live later next week and avoid the F1 race too.

If a couple people with extensive testing and XenForo experience want to contact me for some user testing I will provide instructions. Thanks!

    Yup - Agreed.

Rob - Just curious... is there going to be a redirect to a simple "Ferrarichat is down for maintenance, please check back at (whatever US time zone you wish you use or GMT)"? Also, you may want to send a notification e-mail out to the Newsletter list, in case anyone may have missed seeing this thread.
