Vettel re-signs to the end of 2020

It has just been announced in Spa that Sebastian Vettel has re-signed with Ferrari until the end of 2020.

I predict that Kimi will be at Scuderia Ferrari for 2019 as well now that Seb has a three year contract. If they continue their pace into 2018, they will want to keep the duo together. Seb won't want Riccardo beside him when his contract come up at the end of 2018 but Ferrari will want max when he comes up at the end of 2019

 

TBH, I'm not really surprised.

I get the impression that Seb genuinely enjoys being with Ferrari and a part of it's history, not just for the racing, but also for the road cars, and I get the impression that he feels a part of the whole Ferrari "Family".

Seb and Max together at Ferrari in 2020 would be quite interesting to see, especially as Seb would have established an incredible relationship with Ferrari by then.

I agree. And why wouldn't he? He's already a four time WDC, albeit in a car that was so dominant others really did not present that great a challenge.

I'm sure he wants more WDC titles. Unless he thought Ferrari lacked the talent or commitment, which by signing, he plainly doesn't, he should stay at Ferrari and be part of one of the grandest teams and traditions in F1 history, while helping them add to that history.

 

Eh, I remember it differently. Compare his teammate's finishes. Only one of those years was close to a run-away. Certainly not like Mercedes pulled off 2014-2016.

 

Certainly not like Mercedes in the past 3 years. You are right that only 2 of his Red Bull seasons were dominant.

 

I think, assuming Vettel can be champion this year, and have a strong 2018-2019, he will probably retire at the scuderia .

Hamilton. One-two bad seasons and he'll be done.

 

If bottles beats him this year he will leave this season. It's why I cheer bottles on every week, hoping the chunky monkey can stay ahead of the little ballerina

 

I was not really surprised by the fact that he signed, but rather by the duration of his new contract. I expected him to re-sign for one year, and thus keeping his options open for the 2019 season and beyond.

He definitely seems to enjoy his time with Ferrari - although last season I had the impression that some cracks (and some frustration) were starting to show up...
